My car is making awful
sounds when trying to be
started and then it backfires
the whole engine shakes
what could be the problem

Posting what type of vehicle you have and what year it is would help. That said, you may have a misfiring engine, if there is excess shaking you may have a broken engine mount (or two). And backfiring (assuming you have an older throttle body or carburetor intake) can indicate bad timing, carbon buildup, leaky injectors or float bowl, etc...
