Oil pressure light

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 97 dodge 1500 with the 5.2 in it, the oil pump went
out so I went ahead and replaced it. Now the oil pressure
light will not turn off. I have brand new oil that reads perfect
after letting it run about five ten minutes, and I know the
pump works. What would cause the light to stay on?

If the engine has the correct amount of oil in it, have you checked the oil pressure using another gauge? Might be a defective "new" pump, or a defective pressure regulator or sending unit; maybe even a defective gauge.
