Truck not running right

I have a 1985 GMC that has been running really
good. Yesterday afternoon got in it and it started
as normal but within a few seconds it started idling
really rough as though it was gasping for fuel.
When I would give it gas it sounded really rough
with some airy popping noise. Had very little
power. Then finally just died on me. Then when I
would start it back up it would idle really rough
then if I gave it gas at all it would give 1 big
coughing sound and choke out. I let it sit for afew
hours then tried to start it up again and it started
just fine with a smooth idle.  Then again within 8-
10 seconds started running rough again.  Any
advice for me.
