Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Last couple days my truck drove fine going
forward but when tried to back up noticed
loud clanging noise.go forward was fine
again. Today i tried backing up in reverse it
made loud cland again and stopped me
completely like i had hit fencepost. Then
tried go forward n acted like wasnt in
gear.tried forward,reverse nothing. It did
manage to kick in drive but very little power
in the motor. Got it home. Now it starts fine
but when put in drive or reverse i have to
really rev engine in order to get it to move at
all then its like itll catch and really try to take
off.  Please help if can on this issue. Ty

lets start with fluid levels and quality ..trans, transfer case(if applicable) and diff(s)

also have a peek at u joints. what about diff and t-case if 4x4

I was thinking u joints yesterday but today when it wouldnt hardly move in any gear im thinking otherwise. U joints seem fine. Will check other fluids if can. Yes its 4x4.

reverse input clutch is only 1 part of reverse you have direct clutch and also sun shell and gear (planet also) 4.6 L should be a 4R75W transmission

Now ill start it "starts fine" idles well. Put it in drive foot off brake n it wont move. I push the gas like half way down n itll start moving slowly then itll catch n take off . does same in reverse

t-case should be 4406 borg warner also known to break shift forks inside especially 4x4 on the fly (mode switch on dash) also tire size must be all the same on vehicle or t-case can take damage

Check the fluid level but I think your transmission has a internal mechanical failure.
