My 2003 Envoy wont go into park to release the key causing battery to die.

Mechanic said it doesn’t know it’s in ‘park” .  
Can the “shifter” part be bought online?  
Trying to save some money, this car is killing
me w/repairs.

1. This could be a broken brake-shift interlock. Normally, you press the brake peddle to get out of park, but don't have to press the brake to go back into park. A broken mechanism can prevent the shifter form moving in both directions. 2. Could be a broken or stretched shift cable, a failed solenoid, or even a worn ignition switch blocking the shifter return to park.
