This is starting to happen on my steering wheel
anyway to fix it or stop it from spreading

I wouldn't worry until the tires start to look like that. Just get a new steering wheel cover every 50K miles.

WalMart has a decent variety for $10. I think they get damaged forcing them on and later show those stretch marks. Some are real leather and if treated with conditioner, they may last. Sun is their worst enemy
