2013 Hyundai Tucson

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Do I have to change the timing belt at 60,000.  Dealer says it is "showing wear".  How many more miles can I go before changing?

1 Answer

42,830

The good news is, the typical replacement interval is accepted as 100,000 miles. The bad news is, all Hyundai vehicles have an "interference engine" meaning that a broken belt allows valves to be crunched by the pistons as the car coasts to the side of the road. I'd have it inspected once a year. A replacement can be $500 at an independent mechanic shop, or three times that at a dealership. Tough decision really.
