My 2006 LX V6 has 318,000 on it. It's been an amazing car! Had two Camry's prior ('92 & '99) and while both were great cars, they lasted only a little over 100,000 miles. Go Hyundai.

06 sonata v6 gls. Have 99973 miles on it. That's why I looked this up haha. Replaced my squeaky control arm brushings, a leaking valve cover gasket, and a door handle. That's not bad considering I drive the living s**t out of it when I do drive it. I don't plan on changing my driving, so I don't plan on getting TOO many miles out of it.

2006 Sonata GLS 2.4: 413,000 miles. 2009 Sonata GLS 2.4: 215,000 miles. Except for regular maintenance items and 1 leaking radiator, all original and without issues. Both with continuous Hyundai dealership maintenance according to schedule (usually around $50 per tune up). Our next car if we ever need one? A Hyundai Sonata, preferable the 'old' (NF) one.

2011 Sonata 2.0 has 270,000+ kms. No issues, replaced regular wear items as needed. Did new spark plugs at around 200,000 preemptively. The mechanic said the originals still looked pretty good when I had them replaced. Also did the serpentine belt at around 240,000, again preventive change. I use high mileage oil and have gotten oil changed approximately every 6000 km. Was burning some oil, until I started using Quaker state high mileage, that reduced burn off significantly (the owners manuel (Canadian Manuel)actually calls for Quaker state. Other than that the car has been great, driven it all across US and Canada, even into Mexico once.

2006 GLS V6 at 288K miles. Original engine, transmission and all accessories things under the hood. Almost identical story to another commenter Squeaky anti roll bar bushing but mechanic didn't say to replace, a leaking valve cover gasket that is fine by me so not fixed, replaced a rear door handle (surprisingly easy), one power window lifter unit (don't try to move frozen windows). Driveability of the engine/transmission is my favorite part of car A kind of noisy front suspension but driving a gravel road every day for past 12 years so kind of expected. I've had a few lower suspension items and a wheel bearing done but don't mind as much since I drive on gravel roads every day. I do oil at 5 to 6 thousand miles. I would re-buy the exact same vehicle again even over newer models/other brands out now. I'm easy on the accelerator/corners/braking but the car still hauls a** if you push the pedal down.

I bought my 2006 Hyundai Sonata, Oct 2016 from a private owner for a very good priced. Had 136k miles at the time and a minor oil leak. Over the almost 2 years I've had to fix the oil leak, breaks twice, oxygen senor, front axle, and then the radiator, hood, front bumper, and ac from an accident I got into. Currently at 171k miles, a little on the loud side but need a new muffler, my back driver side window is currently taped to stay closed bc it wont roll up and check egine light just came on. Took it to O'Reilly's and they said its the transmissions sensor, not sure how much repairs are but this car has been nothing short of reliable. I live in thr Nashville area so i literally drive all over thr city daily and its gotten me to work and school, my children to daycare, school, and summer camp.

2010 sonata 2.4 with 130,000 miles. Purchased in 2012 with 40,000 miles. Daily short commute 20 miles to work and back. I live in Iowa. The winters are brutal from all the salt and sub zero temps. I have stayed on top of the oil changes nearly spot on 5,000 miles with full synthetic oil. The starter is the only mechanical repair ever. Brakes twice I did myself. Super easy car to work on and I am no mechanic. I fix everything via YouTube vids. Anyway, reference the brutal north winters. There is nothing on this car that shows any signs of rusting thru. I have never even had a bulb burn out. The windshield wipers are even the original, which is kinda crazy in Iowa with the scrappy weather. This is just a testament to the quality of parts they use in factory!

Updated - 2006 Sonata GLS 3.3 V6 with 300,00 miles. Everything under the hood [engine, transmission, engine accessories] is original except for common replacement spark plugs@100K, 2 batteries and air/oil filter changes. Oil about every 5K to 6K miles. Leaks some oil now. Driveway was oil spot free for first 11 years. Very slow leak from from valve cover corner nearest to alternator which seems to be a semi common problem in some high mileage posting, but have never fixed it. Known issue with timing chain rattle in first few seconds of startup which I elected not to fix, but was covered under warranty if requested.. Changed transmission fluid once, still bright red/clean so they haven't recommended replacing it, fairly light footed easy driver here, so not putting high heat into transmission. Suspension components of a few varieties like ball joint, control arm, stabilizer link, regular brakes, regular tires, and I think 2 wheel bearings. I live on a gravel road so that should factor in. Overall, I'd buy the same car again. Oh how I miss the V6 engine/transmission combination being phased out forever, driveability over wide speed range and hills was effortless.

2011 Limited 2.4 sonata with aftermarket turbo added to it's non-turbo engine (Project car). Great potential in these cars. Pushing 340 hp with a more fuel economical tune. Thinking of changing the tune for strictly performance. Got the car in July completely stock with 100,000 miles. Since then its @ 116,000 miles. That's 16,000 mi in roughly 5 months. All electronics work properly including the factory touchscreen navigation and sunroof motor. The only thing that doesn't work as it should in the car is the USB port, for some reason it won't sync to any device. Don't even need it though, due to the factory Bluetooth. I have replaced the main fuel pump, for is was leaking a gasoline smell which is resolved. Performs as it should. But keep in mind each specific car is as an individual like a person. Each car will have it's own issues. Also take into consideration the climate of where you live. For my sonata is driven in the harsh winters of WI. I do drive it hard occasionally to surprise performance cars that cost much more at retail price. Great timeless model, for the 2011-2014 sonatas have a great look that still fits in our world today with the new 2019 vehicles driving around.

I'm still driving it, but with some hesitancy on any trips over an hour away. I just had the alternator changed, and valve cover gaskets. Oil was leaking into the alternator. Now its time to replace the Timing belt, water pump etc...at 166,000 miles. I would really like to get another 100,000 out of it.

my 2007 sonata v6 runs great with 211,000 miles on it. Recently my check engine light went on but than went off and has not returned. I have owned it since 2010 when I bought it with less than 20,000 miles on it. I have replaced normal wear items like tires, the battery, alternator, ball joints, but nothing major. The overall engine, transmission, and powertrain all still work well. I drive mine hard and it still runs very well. I go over 100mph often in it and have never had any major issues. I do my own oil changes every 4,000 miles with full synthetic oil. If you keep up on oil changes this car will last a long time!

Seems like all the cars here are old. I bought a Hyundai Sonata 2016 Brand new in September 2017. I now have 26,000 miles (42,000 kms). I drive highway miles 90% of the time. Highway miles means you rarely shift transmission, rarely use brake, and cruise at a constant 75 mph (120 kph) speed for the duration of the trip on a 25-mile (40-km) route. Changed oil every 3,000 miles (5,000 kms), never cranked accelerator within a minute after starting, and avoided pot holes as much as possible. Always watched Scotty Kilmer and ChrisFix shows for tips on how to extend the life of the car better. Always cleaned air filter and maintained correct tire pressure. With the mileage I have been seeing here, I wonder if I could get the same considering that newer cars have more plastic parts in them than do older cars.

200K on my 2007. Only issue, now arising, undercarriage rust. My fault, I've regularly washed the car, but not undercarriage. Now on the fence, "check engine light" supposedly "repaired" repeatedly, but comes back on after 4 days, so I need to decide, renew registration, or ditch this, as nothing satisfies "check engine" light and can't pass inspection with it on.

2008 with 268,000 miles and just now had an issue, clutch went out also needs new belts and AC repair, $4000 to fix not sure if we should say good bye or not... my kids won’t even be seen in it. Engine runs great but cosmetically not so nice missing door handles, all letters fell off the back, can’t see out the head lights, sun visors removed cause they won’t stay, on and on. I know it is all fixable but it did it’s job! Glad to see how many miles these cars can last! Wanting to buy another new one just not sure the newer ones will do the same.

I'm starting to head in the other direction, I'm not saving money buying a new car, what I'd be saving is repair time. Head lights, maintenance issue - just about all cars from what I understand. Other things I've been getting parts and replace myself, like failing driver side window up/down button. Work? Yes, but doable by myself. Best of luck, Allyn.

200K on my 2007 Sonata before it started acting up. Chronic CheckEngine P0455 error, 2.5 years of that. Many EVAP parts replaced. I thought back what changed two years ago? Gas. Changed to a much cheaper gas company. Went back to using Mobil and Gulf, CheckEngine light went out after two weeks of Mobil and Gulf use. I've no idea why, but am hoping this car's no long hostage to this error as it's threatened Inspection failure for two years (plus time and money).

Guess ive been lucky, im in mass and usually run cumberland farms or big y gas. Add amsoil gas additive 3 times a year.now at 152000. Paints beat up on the hood from highway use, rocks suck!

60

Speedway gas has had no effect on the Mr's car, a Toyota. And my car runs fine using it, just the CheckEngine issue. My 2007 Sonata, persistent high speed use in Mass' Rt 3, 128, 190, 290, I 90, and CT's Rt 84/95, no effect on the paint. I have to wonder what's being used (salt?) on the roads you trek.

312,500 miles [half million kilometers] here on a 2006 GLS V6. Had my first under-hood parts failure ever. Power steering rack started leaking badly and before even a check at my mechanic an extremely greasy/oil covered alternator from the leaking valve cover right above it gave out, along with a Christmas tree array of lights on the dash lit up, blinking ones included. I was glad these failure happened back to back, because I thought, this is the time to say goodbye and it would be an easy decision. I was humored when a working used car value calculator was negative (-44$) and my scrapyard offer not working was higher than a private party sale because of such high mileage. I guess KBB and NADA sites really don't have fine tuned calculation when high mileage hits their estimators. It is now the prototypical $500 "it drives" car in still quite enjoyable form. Since I had over $50 buck of fuel in the tank, I decided I'd try fixing the alternator before saying goodbye. Finished that with help from a friend and still driving it. The NF body series (2006 to 2010) seems to age well with fairly anonymous styling -- something newer sedans don't seem to have. Logos have tripled in size, bumpers have disappeared, and flashy front end designs seem to be all the rage.

Check Engine P0455 is back on. Hyundai says bring it to a dealer. Dealer initial look is $99. Dealer says it looks to be electrical and will be another $272 to diagnose which electrical component. That's $371, just to say why the light's on. I have about 9 months before next annual inspection is due to decide chasing this down or give up on an otherwise perfectly functional car.

2006 Sonata GLS V6 - End of Life @ 314,900 miles No repairs on engine or transmission except for one alternator and upper radiator hose. One trans fluid change. Normal maintenance of oil, filter, and batteries. Suspension/wheel bearing/brakes/tires were by far the largest component of repair costs. Glad I purchased lifetime alignments, paid for once, used many times. Body components are one door handle, one sideswiped mirror, one hood cable. Rust under quarter in size in wheel well are and panel seam drip holes at bottom of one door. Why did I get rid of it? In mere weeks the power steering rack, fuel line leak, new tires due, and state inspection needing some suspension work all conspired to be too much cost for me for an estimated 10K more miles. I drove it running to the junk yard, though Craigslist netted a lot of interest, the sales process follow through was sub-optimal. Records from beginning of vehicle life up till now are all summarized below. What's surprising is 1. How much depreciation cost even as the miles rack up very very high. 2. Driving a car into the teen years trades off depreciation for repairs, but is still viable for quite some time. YMMV. If I had opted for the 4 cylinder at 28 mpg mixed compared to the V6 at 24 mpg mixed I would have saved about $5000 in fuel over the ownership period. The power was great but newer four cylinders are now quite good. If the synopsis and summary chart are helpful, thumbs up.

My husband's 2004 Hyundai Sonata (which he bought used from the original owner about 13 years ago) has 416,00 miles on it and he doesn't really take care of his car like I do, meaning he is late on oil changes, rarely washes it, and only takes it in if it causes him a problem etc. But his car keeps going and going. My husband LOVES this car. Super comfortable, reliable, no major fixes. It had some kind of maintenance work last year, about $2,000 to bring it up to speed (nothing super major if I recall) but I thought he had wasted his money. But this car has proved me wrong. He drives it on a two hour round trip every day to work and back up a 2 mile gravel road to our home. After reading in this blog about the guy with the Sonata that was up to 529,000 miles, we are just going to see how far the old girl will go. I definitely agree with my husband when we discuss the kind of car he wants next, when the old girl does give it up, we will definitely buy another used Hyundai Sonata! It is the secret champ of the car world!

For those with check engine light coming on and turning off and computer shows emissions issue. I had this problem and discovered the cause. There is a "gas tank air filter" just behind where you fill your gas. It's a longer cylinder. Mine was clogged. It's $150 part and easy to fix if you can get under there. It solved my problem, thanks to an honest mechanic that pointed it out! Also, it was causing the has nozzle to shut off with very slow filling when fueling up. Check to see if you have this filter if your engine light diagnostic shows emissions issue. Hope this helps.

Thank you, C3703. I see "fuel tank air filter" in the owner's manual list of maintenance, but find nothing by that name in the parts stores or repair web instructions (youtube, cargurus, etc.). Would you know what the official name is for this part? They may've been trying to use man-on-the-street speak calling it "fuel tank air filter", and not the part's real name.

I have a 2009 Sonata GLS 2.4. 175,000 Miles. I've only had 1 issue since I bought it about 1 1/2 years ago, Unfortunately The Tourqe Converter Went In It "Transmission". So I bought a used one from Cumberland Salvage for 250$ and paid 700$ to have it installed, Before that it ran Awesome And Since the Transmission Switch It Has Been Purring like a kitten.. Basically it was just straight bad luck on my half, I bought it with bad tranny however like I said there was Absolutely no side effects, one day I went to start it and put it into gear and stalled immediately. Wouldn't go into gear. But it had to of been just bad ownership in the past. I love the car. I hope it gives me another 175,000 miles.

I have a 2008 Hyundai Sonata V6 SE. It has 349,000 miles on it and still runs well. Oil changes done every 5000 miles. Love this car and hope to keep it going for a while.

2006 Hundai Sonata GLS 3.3L V6 - it has 215,000 Miles on it. Sounds as if I may have motor problems though ‍♀️

2017 Hyundai Sonata SE 2.4 NA I4, I bought it new off the showroom floor in 2016 with 21 miles on the odometer, right now I've got 246,106 miles on an entire original powertrain. I've replaced the belt, plenty of new tires, and only use Mobil 1 High Mileage Synthetic with strict 4500 mile intervals (about 1 change per month for me). Car runs and drives just like it did when I bought it.

157,180mi on a 2011 Sonata (built 2010) original owner. Had to have the engine block replaced (under warranty) in 2018 because it was using too much oil. Everything else was regular maintenance, recalls completed and tires. Oh brakes changed and alternator changed once. Gas mileage is great especially on long distance drives. Sept 2020 SRS sensor light came on so getting that checked now. Happy with my purchase from way back then.

2011 Hyundai Sonata GL 126,800 km. Have had all recalls completed. Changed hoses due to degrading and tires, breaks, regular maintenance. Oil changes by factory schedule. Now have to change CV axles due to leaking grease from boot. ($1298+ tax) one other major repair around $1,100 last year. Little bit frustrated as things happen such as turning key, lights come on and radio comes on, but car will not turn on. After calling CAA a couple times was told 2011 Sonatas are known for this and to try to start car by putting in neutral?!? It worked though...this has happened twice now. I’m seeing all these good things about Hyundai with high mileage and wondering what is going on with my car?!? Did I just get a lemon???

James, I'm sorry I no longer have my research notes, but I believe a consumer research magazine Consumer Reports Car Buying Guide's eval of 2011 Sonatas said (I'm paraphrasing here) the year/model is a lemon, don't consider this if buying a used car. As for your particular current problem, it sounds like your ignition needs repair. If you're so inclined to repair it yourself, South Main Auto, on youtube, for general instruction (my sonata didn't need any special tools to work on). You'd have to find a video for your particular model. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4pk8gq0AxA4

Web search says your problem is Neutral Safety Switch. Youtube search has videos on this, says it's both cheap and easy to do this yourself. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lwy3UDE7qqQ

Yes, it's one rugged car. Two words to save yourself a lot of heartburn if you're in the north of the country: Undercarriage Wash.

Just hit 150,000 on 2013 Sonata Limited, 4 cylinder. Oil change every 5k, all recalls done, couple other minor parts replacement. Oh yeah, CV driveshaft replaced at 137k. City, highway & mountain driving. Also 8-10 hour straight driving trips 3-4 times per year. Hoping for a few more years, knock on wood. Looks like it'll make it!

Update, i did have 172000 on my 2013 and a week ago on a small trip the car just shut off. Tried restarting but nope. Its now at the dealer getting a new engine. Good thing its still covered under engine recall. Just awaiting reassembly.

2018 Sonata SEL 2.4 GDI which just turned 48,000 miles. I know thats still practically new. I change oil and filter at 4000 intervals, use oem filter and Supertech full syn oil. I run PEA Gumout injector cleaner at each oil change too. The car runs, drives and looks like new. I'd really like to get a 2020 Sonata but I just can't justify trading in a car that is so flawless.

Only yesterday found a 2007 V6 (top specs) with only 34.000km on the clock and in showroom condition. Bought it strait away. I could not be happier after reading all these super high mileages on this website. Now lets hope my wife doesn't wreck it ;))) Thanks to all of you for the info.

I have 2017 Sonata SE. currently at 120k. I put at minimum 100 miles everyday due to driving as Uber. Use full synthetic oil and change oil every 12000 miles. But considering doing it every 15000 miles bc I notice the oil is still clean after 12000 miles. I think the recommendation oil change mileage is motor oil industry just trying to sell more motor oil and filters. I had no issues whatsoever. I will try to make it to 500K. This is the third Sonata I had. I think it is a very good car. I test drove a Camry before I bought this one. but I like Sonata better bc the Camry seemed too sluggish and weak compared to sonata. it has three modes to select for performance Eco, standard, and sport. You can definitely notice the kick when selecting sports mode. My four cylinder car feels like it has a stronger kick then most 6 cylinders. But i just use eco mode most of the time bc it’s still very strong. But when I need a extra kick when merging onto highway or just like to have fun by feeling like I am driving a high performance sports car I switch to sports mode. I think this car is the best car in its class or even at least one step up. Only car that didn’t give me buyers remorse. I think the price is too reasonable i would even pay more to buy it if the price was higher but luckily they are still reasonably priced. Don’t tell Hyundai they might increase the price:)

2004 Hyundai Sonata LX with V6. Bought it new. Change oil every 3000 miles. Have 127600 miles. I have recently had overheating issues and replaced radiator and hoses. Also have a torn drivers side Axel boot which requires a full axel replacement and leaking struts and shocks. So it is about $3000 to repair everything right now. My car is ebony or black and it sits outside in CA so the hood, roof and trunk paint have faded. I would like to repaint it but it is hard to justify the costs. But I have really low mileage for a 17 year old car so maybe I should paint also and keep it until 300K or more miles.

I have a 2011 2.0 with a little over 220,000. Car was running better til I got an oil change and did an oil consumption test then ended up with a cracked oil pan. Have to watch what dealership you go to mine doesn’t seem to know how to fix their own cars. Car alone hardly any issues this whole time except the fuel pump. Trying to see how far it will go, it has its days after the oil pan problem but the most runs good still.
