I would have to give the Z28 the edge (provided they are both running at stock specs). I've driven the non turbo 924, and it can't get out of it's own way. With the turbo it should do better, but the older turbo cars had a lot of delay from the time you stepped on the accelerator to the point of developing boost. By then the Z would have a comfortable lead that the 924, I fear could not overcome in a short distance.

I have a 924 turbo S, and it's a TON faster than a regular one. The difference is staggering in all aspects from power to handling to braking. They might as well be different cars. The Z/28 would still probably win, but it's not a clear answer. TPI motors debuted in 85, and without some serious mods the 931 (924T) won't beat it. If the Z has the base, crap LG4 base 305 the Porsche would be damn close. I run 9-10psi boost in my car ( 6psi is stock in the USA) and it would pretty handily take the carbureted Z's and keep pace with the TPI cars. My 931 would easily pull past any stock '85 Z on the highway, but again the TPI car would be hard to get away from. As far as launching it's not a problem--you have to slip the hell out of the clutch to get going but the transmission won't let you down. What you don't want is a "street start" 5-15mph roll. You'd be dead in the water for so long you could read the phone book.

i have an 89 iroc, and a 924 turbo, the 89 iroc has more horsepower than the 85. It would be neck and neck, it would boil down to whether the porsche is a manual, and how good you are at shifting. Everything I've read about those, the times for the porsche are usually about the same in the 1/4 to a half sec difference. The 350 third-gens all had an automatic as the t-5 trans was too weak to handle anything more than a 305.

no sorry id have to say the camero will win coz its a higher preformance car than the porche

My 924 drills a 2009 BMW M3 up to 200 km/h. The Camaro will have to make more than 450HP to beat it;)
