I have got a bit of a head scratcher here, at least for me it is. I have bought
a 1968 Mercedes-Benz and I need to know a few more things about it as I
get started working on the vehicle.
First off the engine has been replaced at some point and I am being told that
it is a 240D (the car was originally a 250). The chassis number does confirm
that the car is a E type 250 model (114 010 1 0 017357). The engine
number is what is giving me some issues. All the paperwork that I have lists
the number as 615 940 101 9806 which specifies that it is a 200D from a
W123 model. Now that I have confused you, here is my question:
Could the 200D fit on the original transmission from the 250 or would the
transmission need to be changed? Also if the engine is a 240D would it fit
on the original transmission? Thanks for all your help.
