1973 four wheel drive issue

Asked by Cirrus_1030 Jan 20, 2017 at 10:05 AM about the Dodge RAM 1500

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My four wheel drive isn't working. I heard a clunk in the front end, and noticed
the drive line to the front will spin then clunk and free spin for a second then
grab again. Is this a front differential (spider gear issue) or a transfer case
issue?

If the driveline keeps spinning then I am guessing there is a problem with the front differential or the locking hubs.

if drive shaft spins and grabs you have issues in differential for sure.sounds like spider gears in diff are broke or ring gear damage
