Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Driving on the highway doing 75 mph, all sudden my rpm increased, the push button
overdrive off light comes on, stayed on for 20 mins, as i tried to nurse truck home, then
out of blue OD light goes out and truck drives fine. ten min later same thing OD off light
comes on again stays on until i get home shut off truck , next time i start truck all is
fine,  seems like an electrical problem to me but i am ignorant,  is the overdrive off
switch control a solenoid, thanks for any help.

disconnect the connector at the actuator solenoid...test the amount of continuity of the windings...should be around zero ohms...check the power delivery.....should be 12v on one wire and (-) ground on the other wire....check the OD fuse~

i am not sure where the actuator solenoid is located, is it inside the pan or mounted to outside of transmission ? ignorance is not bliss.

do you have an OD fuse? I can pull up your fusebox and have a looksee--- there has to be wires goin' to it...we just need to find the connector and the wires....after it's found to be open or shorted...then we can find out the exact location...will find a cartoon for ya...think I have time~

sure there is a "pigtail" for the solenoid...we must look 'pon your schematic to tell which colors we are testing~ here's a valve body~

The solenoids being shown above are not the overdrive they are the governor solenoids for up and down shift the above pic is also located next to the transducer that monitors pressure they a in the block above the overdrive solenoids are mounted next to that block not in it.they are hard wired to the plug that goes through the case. when your overdrive starts to slip rpm up and down most of the time its the overdrive spring is broke overdrive is the only gear in the trans that has a preasure plate and a 800 pound spring to ingage it all other gears are hydrolic I explain this in other sections about the difference between 46rh 46re 727 and 518 auto trans
