I was told that 2002-2007 Dodge trucks have had a reputation for bad transmissions. Is this true?

Asked by Tori Nov 24, 2012 at 09:37 PM about the Dodge RAM 1500

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I am looking at buying a Dodge 1500 (hopefully Hemi) and want to know about common problems.
Thanks

I have a 2007 quad cab 137000 miles with 5.7 hemi and only problem I have had is egr valve. Other than that its been great. Pulls my boat and 29' airstream very well. Did get a shock though when I went to change the plugs. They are expensive and it has sixteen of them. I would not hesitate to buy another one of these trucks.

That transmission story has been around for 20 years. I will say this. Make sure you keep the transmission fluid changed. If you buy one with 60K or less get it changed as soon as you buy it. If you buy one with over 100K don't change it (unless the owner says it's been changed at least once already then again, have it changed, ASAP!!)

The chrysler trans issue story was from when they thought the trans would be fine running at 210 degrees. Well they dont, I think by 2002 they had that sorted out.

Brand New back in 07, now I have 80K miles. NO issues at all. Highly recommend it. Pulls my dads 25 ft. center console with no problem. Gotta go HEMI, 4.7 is ok but the difference is huge between the 2. I had 4.7 first then upgraded to HEMI. 4.7 was a 05 & no problems with that on either.

I had a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 single cab, transmission went out at around 150,000 miles, it didn't even make payoff.
