1982 Dodge Ram 1500

I have a 1982 Dodge Ram 1500 pu 318 two barral carb *i had rebuilt, but did not fix problem. When driving the gas peddle feels like its disegaged (engine still running) then jumps back into gear with some backfire. I changed out the ignition coil too. Please help.

help me understand better. does the gas pedal not feel like its doing any thing like its not making the engine rev at all? or is it that the engines revving but the truck isnt picking up speed?
