Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 96 dodge caravan was running fine, I parked it for the night, go back out the next day and it wont move. It starts up just fine, but when I put it in reverse it doesn't feel like it is going into reverse at all. I put it in drive to see if it would go forward but it still wont move. Then it jumped for drive to 3 on the shift indicator and made an awful sound. I turned the car off. When I started it again, it started fine but then PRND3 were all lit up. Please help me figure out what is going on?
