I just bought this truck a few weeks ago and it was running great... After a few days of driving however the check engine light came on and a code reader reported it as running lean. I took it to my master mechanic uncle and he said that looking at the trucks info it was a leak in the intake gasket. Intake gaskets were changed and the code went away for about an hour. Then the light came back on and I can smell the engine running lean... Any ideas what this might be?

try spraying along the air intake duct and intake manifold with carb cleaner while the engine is running. listen for changes in idle, you found your leak.

We did that. Thats how my uncle concluded it was a leak in the intake gasket. Weve replaced the gasket but its still throwing a code and I can still smell something wrong with the engine. We sprayed choke cleaner on all the vaccum lines as well but that didnt create any noticeable changes in the idle

Got this figured out now. It was throwing a lean code because one of the Air-fuel sensors was bad so it went into limp mode and was forcing itself to run poorly. Changed the sensor and it runs great.
