my Magnum V8 high revs at 25 and 45 mph, then the check engine light comes on.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I've taken it to 2 different places to have it tested, one said it could be electrical, the other said there's absolutely nothing wrong. I don't use my overdrive because it makes it happen more frequently. is the tranny about to go out or is it in the engine? we've put a cold air intake on it and a remote start. I've checked the tranny fluid and oil when this happens. any thoughts?

When the motor revs, Do you gain any speed? Is the tranny standard or auto? Does the tranny fluid have a burnt smell? When was the tranny filter replaced?

From my experiance I'd guess that the tranys filter may be clogged. Or your trany may well be on its last leg.

its an automatic. no burnt smell. we changed the trans fluid about 6 months ago. the truck isn't driven daily, only about 5000 miles per year. I'm not sure if we changed the trans filter or not - have to ask the hubby. speed is fine even when it high revs. I've heard about Dodges being notorious for trans problems and I'm hoping I'm not about to have to put a new one in. thanks!

check the linkage on the engine and trans. they might be too tite. carb cleaner or wd40 might free it. the fwd trannies are the crappy ones. the rwd trannies are based off of tf904/727.
