Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The transmission down shifted and then mad a clunking noise. I pulled over
and it seamed to go into park but shifter was in drive. When it wouldn't
change to neutral when stopped, so I could push it off the road. I had to jack
it up and play with the wheel and shifter to get it to move. I had a wrecker
take it to the house .now when you put it in gear it it will jump ahead but never
move when accelerate. What could be the problem?

sounds like the shift linkage is wacked out and it somehow went into park (mad clunking) , block the wheels and hit the E brake if you decide to crawl underneath it to check

The one thing that doesn't add up is that the transmission does go into neutral when lever is also showing N. When shifting to drive it will jump ahead but not allow it. To move ahead when you give it gas. Also when putting it R it jumps forward and a howling noise. I thinking the planetary gear may have been damaged?
