transmission won't shift

I HAVE A  1994 S500  COUPE V8 . BOUGHT IT FROM AN IMPOUND YARD.
TRANSMISSION WON'T SHIFT IS STUCKED ON EITHER 1ST OR 2ND GEAR.
ANYBODY ELSE HAS HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS?
IS IT MAYOR PROBLEM OR NOT NECESSARY?

Well from what Ive read on the mercedes forums this was a common problem, that from what I understand was an exspensive fix, either a tranny rebuild or used replacment. it is $1200 to $1800 repair depending on the fainess of the repair shop. transmission needs to be rebuild. the internal clutches are gone.
