we have tried 2 different code reades on my 04 burb but we dont get any reading, nothing, no no connection at all, is there a fuse in the circuit or something else preventing the readers from working

I have a 1996 suburban with an issue that need help with. My truck idle find revs up find only when you put it in gear and want to go it wants to die you let off the paddle and it fin you step on the gas want to chock it has no power.
