Found my sending unit on my 2011 Silverado. Can't get it out. It's stuck and tab broke off

What tab, the plastic on top of the sender? Is the hex still there or did it snap off flush to the block? They make a special socket to remove those, and it has to come out now because otherwise oil will be squirting all over.
