i want to purchase a car but it has been sitting in the showroom for a year. is it safe
to drive home, or should i have the oil changed or what. i'm not very mechanically
inclined. the car is 500 miles from here.. thanks.

It depends. I would ask the dealership if it was started and ran regularly; at least once a month. If not, definately change the oil, oil filter and put in fresh gasoline.
