2001 chevy blazer no problems starting until fuel assembly replaced

Question type: General

california smog code required replacement of fuel assembly in gas tank---new installed
and now hard starting if sitting for 8 hours plus--can hear fuel pump working when
starting but needs to crank over 10-12 times. Never an issue before replacement. Any
suggestions---have not evaluated spider assembly cause was never an issue before
replacement of pump eventhough pump worked great before---this vehicle ran great
before repairs but showed emission code
