Hi folks, I'm comparing the following in terms of RELIABILITY:

Seventh gen Civic (2000-2005)
vs.
Sixth gen Accord 2.3L 4cyl. (1998-2002)

I know this gen Accord had some transmission troubles, but how widespread is that?  Is it avoidable if I find an Accord that has been cared for?  Is the transmission failiure mainly related to owner abuse or were those trannys just weak?

What is your knowledge/experience regarding this? Once again, just looking at the reliability factor.

for reliability, i would go with the newer civic. I own that generation civic so i know by first hand that it is a great car. The transmission problems are usually associated with automatics so if you plan to get a standard/manual, don't need to worry that much about transmission problems. If you plan to get an auto, get the transmission checked out at the local dealership, beware they will rip you off with the price.
