92 - 95 Civic Hatchbacks engine (and tranny) compatability

Question type: Car Customization

Which civic hatchback trim packages (CX, DX, VX, Si) will accept a VX (D15Z1 VTEC-E) engine and related tranny? (i.e. "plug and play" for wireing harnesses, mounts, drivetrain and other connections, etc.)  Anybody know what the tranny model# that goes with the VX package? I understand it is geared differently for the VX engine specs.  I am looking for a 92-95 hatchback due to their great mileage when compared to other model years.  If I find a body in good shape, but mechanically ready to be replaced, I'd like to have a VX engine (and tranny if required) installed.  Any knowlegeable input would be great!  Thanks.

Look up Hasport. They make motor and tranny mounts for almost every swap and engine tranny combination out there. If you have the motor already, do you have the computer? If you dont have the motor and are in the market for it, MAKE SURE THAT YOU GET THE COMPUTER WITH IT. About your tranny concerns with the model #, any honda tranny will fit but try to stick with the 1.5 liter tranny or maybe the 1.6 liter out of the b16 in the civic si. Since the motors are smaller they are geared differently than a b18 or h22, or what have you. dont quote me, this is correct to the best of my knowledge. I am a honda guy so if you have more questions i am happy to help.

Hassport does make good mount kits, but if you are looking for a simple swap, just stick with the d or z series engines, one of the sohc vtec ones should drop right in that bay with the same mounts, the only time to call for aftermarket mounts is when you want a b series from the integra or an h series from the prelude/accord. try to find the whole drivetrain in a junkyard with harness and computer, if no black bok is avaliable, hondata makes a stand alone system that is fairly plug and play and will work for a stocker all the way up to a 600 or 700 horse undrivable monster. Hope that all helps

If the engine that your droping is a VTEC, than the "plug and play" swap will only work in the SI, the mounts should be the same, however if you wish to swap to another model, CX, DX, not sure about VX you will need a computer and wiring harness to accomodate the VTEC. Basically if the car had VTEC before, another similar VTEC engine should work no problem. I recently switched an engine out of my 96 Civic coupe DX, I looked a getting an SI engine and it was the same price for the engine as a non VTEC, but the Computer and wiring harness were another $700. Hope this helps

all honda motors will fit in a civic hatchback (eg) but you will need custom motor mounts and wiring harness and ecu to match.

ok so here is the deal. Yes a vx tranny will get a mile or two more in gas milage but you can also get near the same running a simple dx, cx, lx tranny(lx=from a 4 door civic). The vx motor has only a 1 wire o2 just like in a obdo swap. When you have a vx body and do a swap with a regular 1.5 dx cx or lx long block you would have to run a couple of extra wires for the 4 wire o2 if you run the required ecu. you can run any of this 4 motors with any of the computers but you have to make sure you run the right harness pretaining to the ecu and egine. ( ie. if you have a vx harness just run the extra 3 wires for the o2 if running another 1.5 ecu other then a vx ecu.) all the mounts are the same in the single series, only time you need differnet is for k, b, h swaps, as long as they are from that year range (etc. 88-95). it would make your life easier to stay with in a range of body style you have for odb reasons, with swaping parts to make it comply or harness adapters. some vtecs require knock sensor if you run the right ecu or it will check engine. just let us know what chassis you choose and we can assist you more with choices.

incorrect his vx harness will work fine when swapping a sohc vtec. the harness already has vtec lines for his vtec-e. he needs to atleast add wires for his HO2S. He doesn't need hasport mounts if he is swapping another D or switching to stock B. B-series Integra mounts will be plug and play. he would only need rear t braket mount and trying to keep ac/ps will be more complicated as to what mounts to use. any D series HYDRO tranny will swap onto 88-00 D series for your chassis. KS(knock sensor) will only be needed if converting to OBD2. You are OBD1. Only reason i would see anyone trying to convert to OBD2 is to possibly BAR their swapped cars. as far as the ECU(engine Control Unit) or computer, you can use OBD1 version correlating to the motor or jumper harnesses to run OB2 or OBd0 ECUs. doing so would require correct injectors, sensors, alternator and distributor. IMO best solution would be to convert the motor to OBD1 and get the correct OBD1 ECU if the motor you swap is OBD2 only(i.e. b16b, b18c5 or jdm equivalent) i would get a chipped OBD1 ecu with the correct basemap for your motor. Swapping over to b series would require B-series shift linkage, intermediate shaft, axles, b series mounts, b-series rear t bracket(non em1), ecu, motor and B series Hydro Tranny and clutch. If you are trying to do this self labor, best way to go is d or b series these will be for the most part plug and play depending on engine harness and what came with the motor when you buy it. H/K series will need some modifications and fabricating.

you can use any d series tranny with any d series motor. and if you pulled a d series motor out of the car you can put any d seris back in it. but while you have it out why not go ahead and do all gaskets seals and everything..makes it alot easier in the long run

My cooling fan want come on i change the fan ,fuel thermostatand it still want come on not even the condenser what else sould i do
