Why does my 1992 honda accord fan under the hood run after the engine is turned off?

Asked by Tytan Sep 11, 2013 at 01:11 AM about the Honda Accord

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The fan under the hood, sounds like a fan, runs after the car has been turned off - is this normal or what maintenance is required?

it is normal- the fan will continue to run sometimes if the coolant is really hot- when an engine is turned off, the coolant temp will go up as the heat accumulates with no cooling- the fan senses the rise in temperature and will continue to draw air through the radiator until the temp in the radiator goes down- this usually happens in the summer, in a hot climate
