The cable to pop open the hood on 1998 Infiniti i30 just broke. Is there any way to open the hood without getting that fixed first?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When I pulled on the lever in the car to pop the hood, the cable pulled very loose and will not go back in.  The hood never popped.  Is there still a way to get the hood to release so that I can get it open to change a battery?

If the cable isn’t broken, what probably happened is the outer sheath came loose from the clamp. In that case, the lever is pulling both the outer sheath as well as the inner cable back, and the lever cannot go back far enough to release the hood. I suggest you take the cable loose from the lever, then with a pair of pliers pull the inner cable back until the hood releases. Once the hood is open you can fix the cable back to the clamp.
