Question type: Maintenance & Repair

i have a 93 jeep grand cherokee with a 4.0 straight 6. automatic. when i press the overdrive and the light comes on
my rpms will drop 250 rpms  at 60+mph. when i press the od off switch and the light goes off then it raises the
rpms. either way its still not dropping enough rpms. was told at 65 i should be running 2000 rpms. any advise?

From what your saying appears that your OD is working properly. A 250 RPM drop is about right.

That's pretty high are you shifting into all the gears?

Check your tranny fluid for color and level. You can also do this check on tranny. Pull your tranny dipstick and with a very clean white cloth wipe the dipstick down. If you notice a lot if black colored residue you have excessive internal wear. If that is the case you'll need to look closer there. How many miles on your jeep?

Perform the check for debris on the transmission dipstick. With that amount of miles you should not have any significant wear. You should be able to use some additive to the transmission to purge out any debris. Sea-Foam makes an awesome product that works well for these types of issues.

In my 94 Jeep grand cherokee, when the light is off it means the od is on, when the light is on it means the od is off
