How do I reset AWD after spare wheel is re-installed?

2006 Pontiac Montana with AWD.  Every time the spare tire is removed
from the carrier the AWD function is disabled to prevent damage to the
AWD system due to smaller spare wheel.  When the spare is re-installed
onto the carrier, the AWD system remains disabled until the vehicle is taken
to the dealer to be "re-learned," with an hour and a half labor charges of
$130. Anyone have a better solution?
