What kind of engines will fit in my 1972 Cutlass Supereme
Almost all GM, Pontiac, Olds, Chevy of the era and its accessories, may just need motor mounts and depending on if a big block is use front springs.
Any small or big block GM engine, a popular option is to drop a Chevy in there, but you'll get more respect keeping it Olds. Used to be hard to get speed parts for an Olds outside of Kenne-bell, but building an Olds is a lot easier today.
Just consider the transmission short tail or long and which drive shaft you have or will need if changing out the trans and now is the time to beef up that trans and also a better torque converter, and get the flywheel balanced if need be.
Olds 455 or the 350 rocket to keep it olds, but I am old school.
For sure the older olds blocks have thicker castings but also had smaller oil galleys on some of those old blocks making them run warm-hot blooded. I picked up a deal on a early 70's 350ci it ran great, but I had to clean out those tiny oil galleys to stop it from running hot and even then it ran on the warm side.
When faced with the choice I located a 350 from a early 70's olds to go in my 1981 cutlass, just to keep it an olds and to have the extra torque from those under rated engines.
