98 subaru legacy outback

So here's the deal,  6 months ago I bought a 93
legacy wagon for 750$ the heatercore just went
and I didn't want to mess with it so I spent 1000$
and bought a 98 outback, drove it for 3 days and
now it's broke down... pls help... PLEASE...lol.
This is what happened I was driving out of town
and about 30 min in I lost my defrost, then it
started to overheat, not sure if it's the heater core
again or the thermostat. How do I diagnose it?
Please help don't have money for mechanic

Sounds like the 98 may have blown the headgaskets, refill the cooling system and start the engine look for white smoke out the tailpipe and for pressure building up quickly in the cooling system, milky colored engine oil and or oil in the coolant. If the 93 is running then just bypass the heater core, most parts stores carry the coupler you need just remove the two hoses from the core and put them together with the coupler and some hose clamps. You should also purchase a defroster gun to help with keeping the Windows defogged, it will be cold but drive able.

Many old vintage Subarus are $1000 and under for a reason, they are used up. If you must have a Subaru try to buy a newer one, if not look for an older Toyota or Honda and maybe you will make it all the way around the block. Best of luck.
