Question type: Maintenance & Repair

it needs an intake gasket and an egr valve. could that cause the engine to stall in reverse?

yes...yes it could...check all vacuum lines....replace the butyl rubber (troublesome and cracking) with silicone the type that cop cars use and the type that BMW uses-

take the egr off and clean it with some spray brake cleaner and put it back....note it's operation...if its buggered, inoperative and gonzo, buy another and replace it~

i smoke tested my truck and the egr valve was pouring smoke. i havent attempted to clean it. i did notice last night the vacuum line to it was unhooked about 6 inches down and re hooked it up and it didnt die today. but it does bog way down and sound like its going to die. i also got the intake gaskets and a new serpentine belt cause my old one was cracked badly. thank you for your input
