Is anyone familiar or have a 1980 Ford F-150 Ranger Pickup Truck?

Asked by mrisk Jul 22, 2012 at 04:44 PM about the Ford F-150

Question type: General

I have inherited a 1980 F150 Ranger truck.  It is a full size pickup with an extended bed and extra chrome package.  The peculiar thing is that it has a chrome Explorer plate on the tailgate and an Explorer hood ornemant.  I believe this was long before Ford made the iconic Explorer SUV.  My grandfather bought the truck new in 1980.  Any thoughts?

OK, First off. You didn't get a 1980 Ford pickup truck with an Explorer SUV hood ornament or hood . DUH !!! I don't know why people try to answer questions that they don't know anything about. Now, the real answer to your question: Explorer was the name of a trim package offered on all the Ford F-Series pickup trucks from 1968 to 1986. thus that's what you inherited from grandpa. The Explorer SUV came out in 1990 and is in no way shape or form interchangeable with the F-series pickup trucks and you don't have parts on your pickup from an Explorer SUV like someone( I won't mention names) mentioned. . What you DO have is a luxury trim package that was offered on your 1980 Ford pickup truck from Ford that made it feel more like a passenger car than a pickup truck . It came with special trim, a fancier interior and more comfotable bench seat, with special "Explorer" ornamentation and emblems. It was more or less a limited edition packagew with only so many made each year until 1986. 4 years before the Explorer SUV was manufactured. Kenny / MrBlueOval

Well, If you can't give a correct answer, don't give one at all. I mean, come on, how can a hood from a 1991 or newer Explorer which is a compact SUV fit on a Fullsize pickup truck from the 1980's? You know what? It can't, !!! and YES, I DO drink decaf and YES, I feel much better Thank you :-)

he didn't say he had an explorer hood. he said he had an explorer hood ornament. my previous post did not reflect that, so, outside of context, i can see why you thought i said that. what i don't understand is your lack of tact. it's unnecessary.

Blue oval is correct about the explorer trim package but could have been a bit more tactful.
