How to open/repair 2000 Explorer XLT rear hatch/window handle/lock that wont open

The rear handle to open rear hatch has no tension so clearly, something
broke or disconnected and will not allow rear hatch to open. The push-lock
cylinder will not open the lift window but instead embeds further into door.
Inside there is no handle or pull mechanism to open the hatch or window
either. Leaving me perplexed on how i am to get access to guts of door to fix
hatch, handle, window and lock as i can not access way to remove panel.

There are several videos on the net concerning the problem. Same procedure for a year or two in either direction. A picture is worth a thousand words.

From the inside, pull on the plastic trim around the window along the top and halfway down on each side. Remove 2 phillips screws holding strap in the middle. Grab plastic cover with both hands and lift up. Panel should release but cannot come off because the glass is not open. From here you may have to cut the plastic in each side of the glass latch to remove panel. Remove the plastic sheet. Find the yellow connected on the horizontal rod. Push it towards the driver side of car to open hatch. Good luck.
