Dome light not working with door switch -

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I purchased a 2008 E-350 recently and realized that the dome light does not come on when either door is opened. It works fine by the switch, far left is off, center is on and far right is on. I would think the center position would be operated by the door button / switch but this is not the case. Can someone tell me how their dome light opperated?

Thanks,
Charlie

eather the door switches are bad,the bulb is blown or the switch on top of lamp is not in correct position.

Thanks for your reply. I'm thinking it must be related to the switch at this point. I pulled the dome lamp and inspected the switch with a continuity tester and it works fine. There are three wires on the connector. I believe one should be constant battery power, one should be powered through the door switch and the other ground. The problem seems to be that two of the wires have constant power. Neither is controled by the door switch. I'm not sure if this truch has a delay off on the door switch that is malfuctioning or if these two wires have made contact in the harness. I ordered a set of service manuals which should have wiring diagrams. Thanks, Charlie

Hello, my dad just purchased a van just like yours, and is having the same problem, did you ever figure out the wiring for the dome light?

I have an 1994 ford E-350 club wagon that I ad problems with the dome lights, turned out to be one of the door switches was bad. only problem I now have is they won't come on when to you turn on the head light switch, so need to find the problem from there. But pop both your front door switches out and spray some cleaner on them and see if they are working smooth and easy, that is most likely your problem, another trick is once you have cleaned them, install them one at a time and you will soon find which door light switch is the problem.
