Sorry, I tried this question before but was not clear enough. We have a 2002 Ford E-150 Conversion van with 4.6 engine. The transmission is out. We expected to run to the junkyard and pick one up however, are being told only the 2001-2003 E150 van would be compatible, for which the only trans is in a vehicle with over 350,000 miles on it. So, when we do some research, we find that according to the Ford repair manuals at http://www.autorepairmanuals.biz/page/374067 our vehicle has a transmission model 4r70w. Further, we then check other models and find that this is a fairly common Ford transmission that is also used in the E250, E350, Expedition, etc for varrying years. So, the question is, when we are on our search, as these are the same model transmission, would they all be fair game and compatible or are we missing something else?

if the salvage yard said that's what fits then more than likely ; that's what fits . I would think that there are F- 150's and 250's and the E designation would apply to the 350 class , If you want to know your tranny type get the # off the tranny or from the VIN # or do a search and match from a visual and # of bolts on the pan , I would have the original rebuilt or buy a crate , a used tranny is iffy to say the least . To go through an operation like that have to do it again ain't for me .
