Take it to AutoZone and see if they can get a code.

No I don't. Try disconnecting the battery for about a half an hour. If the car's computer has a glitch that will clear it out. Just remember, you may have to put the radio code back in it. So be sure to have that handy. Let me know if it worked.

My shop said the Oxygen sensor #2 needed replacing, they are degraded by ethanol in the gas. Said they have seen more of these failing earlier than they should, due to ethanol

I have a 2012 Toyota Rav4 and the same 3 lights came on, and my mechanic got them turned off. It happened again a week later and he put the scope on and said it was the oxygen sensor. So I got it put in ($230). 2 weeks later and it is on again. Took it back and it will go in for a deeper investigation. I say make noise and tell Toyota this is not cool. It should be corrected free of charge since so many are experiencing the same thing. If it doesn't get solved, this poor single woman is switching brands..

I have a 2012 Rav4 and this happened to me in Dec. I had the O2 sensor replaced and it came on again 2 weeks later so I went back to my mechanic and they replaced the sensor as it was under warranty. That day the 3 lights came on again. I went to my dealership and they said for $87 they would run a diagnostic. My mechanic has done this twice since and comes up with the same code. Toyota says "we have certified mechanics". I get that but I trust my mechanic completely. Toyota says this isn't a known issue. Wrong again. I have been to many blog sites on this issue and there are many of us. I have under 55,000 miles and guarantee that I will never own another Toyota after the way I have been treated on this deal.

I'm an avid fan of Toyota cars. However, dashboard lights came on while driving. The lights were the following: Traction light, 4 wheel drive, engine light :I had diagnostic testing done and I was told it's probably the oxygen sensor Hmm. I have an 07 rav 4 same three lights and code says oxygen sensor. I also am told to replace flow meter at same time but see online this only helps for short time and all lights on again. Issue here is that when the rav senses an issue, it shuts down the capability to go to 4wd and the traction control and stability control no longer work. Toyota says for 'safety' . Well I need my 4wd every winter...wrecked it twice due to no 4wd(well partially cuz of 4wd) TOYOTA NEEDS TO FIX ISSUE

My 2007 RAV4 warning lights came on "maintenance required, 4wd, and vsd exactly at 85000 miles" made an appointment for '$110 per hour" to "run diagnostics ". Lights went off after 2 days so I cancelled appointment. I have kept up with all maintenance. Hmmmm....

I have been having the same problem on my 2012 RAV4 since October. It would often come and go, and not appear for a month or two. It has occurred 2 times in the past 2 weeks. I usually would just erase the code,but i wanna see what this is. I am bringing it to my mechanic this week. I will let you guys know what they tell me. I did get a pending code P0138 but it went away. The car only has 50,000 miles.

hi All i have same issues i get engine management light comes as well as TRC, this was happens randomly Specially on Motor way reduce is the speed and cant go above 70mph, i took advice from the Toyota and they said it your Catalytic converter is blocked and you can clean i have to change it, it will cost £600. its special parts from Dealers ONLY, so Toyota played game. one thing i have learned is never by Toyota again. one thing to try is look at your Water supply bottle is it supplying water correctly cause this can cause engine to slow down while we have EM Lights on save the engine getting hot. Have 2009 RAV...exact same lights...trac control, 4 wd, check engine light.........problem has been going on for almost 10 months....couldn't afford 600 dollars dealer wanted to fix it.....lights will go off for several weeks then come back on randomly......got following codes...C1201, C1241, P0137, P0138, P0607, 1280, 1241...................vehicle is running ok but have strange noise coming from underneath........got letter from Toyota regarding growl type noise from rear differential coupling when driving due to contamination of the front bearing.........have had Rav at shop 3 times and they deny the noise is coming rom the differential and refuse to change part ! Have kept driving it because it all I have but am ready to give up.......Toyota doesn't care. I have watched the lights on dash to see if there is any correlation between weather and their coming on but haven't been able to find any. sorry for writing a book but I am frustrated......had a corolla for over 100,000 miles then my daughter ran it to over 200,000 miles....it was great but this Rav has me ready to run from Toyota. Same lights came on on my 2012 RAV4 V-6, 55k miles. Dealer says O2 sensor B2 S2. I just replaced it this morning with a Denso 234-4261 but the lights are still on. I'm hoping they go out after a few starts.

I have same problem in rainy day but 1 or 2 days after the problem was solved and the light were off. I think the problem related to sensor under the car when it was wet.

Mine came on after an Oil Change service. Did not notice when I left as it was sunny out and did not notice the lights on. Was hoping to resolve this myself instead of spending two hours taking it back....

We bought our 2011 Rav4 new. The first winter, on the coldest night of the year, the same 3 lights came on. I disconnected the battery for a while and they were gone. The next winter the light came on again - again on the coldest night of the year. Happened once every year, when it was frigidly cold. Each time they stayed on until I disconnected the battery. Then it came on twice a year. Last winter it came on a few times, and it was not nearly as cold. Then it started coming on when we'd hit a bump so I knew I finally had enough consistency for someone to find the problem. Took it to Toyota and they said it was a sensor and replaced it. The lights were off for less than a week. So they replaced the "other" sensor. It lasted about 3 weeks. $600+ spent needlessly. Clearly they are just guessing. I told them up front it has to be a bad connection somewhere based on the problem starting when it was super cold, and progressing to less cold, and then to bumps. But customers' observations mean nothing. Going elsewhere to find a solution. Toyota mechanics seem to know nothing more about Toyotas than other, less expensive mechanics.

i have a 2011 with over 100K miles and experienced the same dash light issues (while driving in the rain). The Dealer re-set the code and now it is fine. They said my Code was a Camshaft something or other and that it can be caused by low oil, which I didn't have, or a small amount of dirt in the hydraulics.

I just got a 2010 Rav 4, the lights came on about a week later. My son is a mechanic and changed one of the sensors, the lights have since been off and on, especially after a heavy rain and now in the cold. He is Work I g on it now, code for a bad rear O2 sensor and he suspects a bad ECM. So glad I bought a good warranty with the car!

I have a 2011 RAV4 that has 95K miles on it and has been nearly problem free ... until now. I have the same lights on (Check Engine, TRAC, and 4WD) ... and am debating how to handle the issue. It sounds like Toyota is clueless or inconsistent or ambivalent or all of the above. I can't afford to spend a lot of money and time having them blindly chasing this problem and never solving it. My car is out of warrantee. I may try the dealer ... and insist they contact me before spending any money on repairs. Cold weather could be an issue here ... temps have been in the teens the past few nights with wind chills in the single digits. I had an issue a couple of years ago with visors breaking ... and found a similar thread online where lots of other people had the same problem. Toyota knew about it and refused to recall or replace. I had to pay out of pocket to replace them. If I get the same response here, maybe it's time to go Mazda or Nissan or Honda or something other than Toyota!? Wouldn't you really rather have a Buick!?

I have the check engine, 4WD and traction control lights all come on during the following conditions: been driving car for over 30 minutes, temperatures below zero, speed approximately 40 mph and sudden acceleration. The lights came on and the car would not go over 20 mph after that. I was close to home so I drove the 2 blocks home. I always run non-ethanol gas in the car but just filled up about 50 miles ago. There is a possibility it was ethanol gas (price of gas led me to believe it was alcohol free). In the meantime I will clear the codes and see what happens next.

I had a friend come over with his code reader. My car was throwing a P2111. The throttle flap actuation (during the sudden acceleration) flipped open and knocked some debris loose. The debris would not allow the throttle flap to open and close properly. My friend cleaned the flap and cleared the codes. Car runs great now. Thanks everyone.

So,during last month(december)while driving all three lights-check engine,4WD light and the traction control light came on. Today went to see mechanic....he found following codes...C 1201 and P0201.... There is fault between injector#1 and ECU.However Im planing to switch #1 injector with #2 to find if it is problem with injectors or electronic...

My son has settled on a damaged ECM. Waiting to see if the extended warranty will cover it.

Hello Jen, At this point, if the Dealer is stumped, I would be asking the Dealer to replace the ECM like the previous entry did.

Low oil causes the light to come on.

When my Rav4 gets low in oil (oil below add line on dip stick) all three lights come on , check engine, 4WD light and the traction control light. When I top up the engine oil, the lights will not come on again until it runs low on oil again.

Okay ladies and gents I am happy to report this issue has been resolved on my vehicle. P0135 code, 02 Sensor, Bank 2 Sensor 2. Same code from the previous times. I had previously had the sensor changed (not by Toyota) and expressed my frustration to the Toyota dealership two days ago about changing it yet again. They somewhat assured me it would fix the problem but obviously cant make a guarantee. I left and within 20 minutes ( just like the last time) the CEL, 4wd and Trac lights came back on. I returned yesterday and this time P0136 code, Bank 2, sensor 1. I expressed frustration and reminded them ( I told you so!) Well they started digging, real deep. Apparently there was a Toyota Bulletin (not a recall) that stated that the sensor that is fine must be removed, the sensor that is bad replaced and then the sensor that was fine put back in or it will continue to kick the other sensor. Its almost like a hidden reset. Well, they were right. I drove about 2 hours since the repairs and the lights have not come back on.

I have this problem in our 2011 RAV4 4 cylinder intermittently for several months now. Took it last week to the dealer who replaced the charcoal canister (about $2000 - covered by my extended warranty). Lights were off - until this morning. I'm going to tell him about the Bulletin Jennifer mentioned and see what they do.

I hAve the same problem. Just happened last monday when i was on my way to work. Check engine, traction off and 4wd lights are on and my car engine was making aweful sound. Brought it to our mechanic and it says P0022 was the problem... the mechanic said theres 4 sensors like that and hes gona try to replace one. Apparently cant tell which exact sensor is at fault ... hopefully my car will be fixed soon

Thank you, Jennifer, I'm going to ask my garage to try this - I've had this 4WD/Check Engine System/Traction Control issue intermittently for over a year on my 2010 RAV4 (I'm in the UK). I have the same experience of (a) occurring during wet weather (b) occurring when accelerating, (c) when reset it stays off for a while, but will then come back even months/weeks later. My Toyota dealership were great and took it up with 'central Toyota' who told them that it was my onboard computer (I guess the ECM - ?) being faulty which they said was going to cost over £1,000 to replace. My Toyota dealership wasn't convinced and balked at taking that amount of money from me for something that may still be wrong (bless them, they even pushed back on 'central Toyota' and said if this item had failed then really Toyota should be replacing it FOC because that shouldn't fail at this point. 'Toyota- HQ-Central's response was they absolutely were not funding this). My dealership has said they will investigate further but in the meantime it's 'safe to drive' - I'm not sure about this as the drive of the vehicle definitely changes when the lights come on! I have a 2012 Rav4 V6. I bought the vehicle used in November 2015. 2 weeks after I bought it the 3 lights came on, therefore it was under the 30 warranty. Toyota looked at the codes (all 14 of them!) And determine it was the Charcoal Canister leaking. So they replaced it.. All was well for about 1 year then the lights came on again. They had 2 year warranty on the canister (Thank God!). So they did some testing again, and replaced the Charcoal Canister again. Warrantly expired January 2017. In February 2017 the lights came back on. And I haven't taken it back to the shop since because I don't understand why these canisters are failing so much. I put a new gas cap on a long time ago thinking that was the issue, but no luck. I can't use my 4x4 and that's frustrating. Plus i just hate seeing these lights on my dash. I'm definitely going to look into the oxy sensor problem that others have had.

2010 rav 4 Check check check engine light came on four-wheel-drive light came on traction control lights all came on. All the while cruise control fails to operate. This is a safety issue. It seems many many many people are having this issue. Toyota needs to step up and take care of this problem. If I take it to a Toyota dealer after reading all these responses I am sure they are going to tell me it needs an oxygen sensor. I will pay a lot of money to have an oxygen sensor put in and then two weeks later all the lights will come back on again. Not sure what to do.

Bon tried the. Remedy you posted , but i did disconnect the battery for an hour trying your remedy ,after reconecting I did not check to see if things had changed but went straight into following your posting . The car now is back to normal . I am not sure which method worked or it was a combination of both but thank you ,if it should happen again I will not unhook the battery first ,then see what happens , once again thank you sir

I have the same problem with a 2010, when this happens it disable the cruise control and the all wheel drive ,has to be an electrical issue because it may go back to normal anytime I've been driving it for 4 months now since the last time

This is for a Toyota Rav4 2011 …. I followed Bon’s advice of disconnecting the battery …… It did work ….Thanks!!!!! I noticed that the gas cap was loose and this might have turned on the warning lights (Engine / Trac / 4WD). It seems that there is a glitch in the computer system and once it detects a problem (even small: loose gas cap) it doesn’t recognize that the problem has been fixed. Be careful with TOTOTA Dealer Shops …. they are a group of thugs ….. when I went there to enquire about the problem they automatically told me they needed to run a test that would cost me over one hundred dollars ….. they shouldn’t take advantage of small problems like his, specially when they know )or should know) this types of problems are requiring. Thanks again to everybody that posted their comments. Most comments did help me understand how to fix my problem. I saved me a lot of money.

2011 Rav 4. I know a mechanic told me at Toyota that if the check engine light is ever blinking then it could be something serious and have it checked ASAP. I had lights come on before waited a few hours and it went away. Just today had a different 3 lights come on that is mentioned in this thread. I'm paying it no mind. Both times these lights have come on is in slushy cold weather. I would be careful though of Toyota service people I have been overcharged and I just don't trust them.

My 2012 Toyota RAV4 (58000miles) has the same problem. Three lights (engine, trac and 4WD) keep on. I went to autozone and got two different code: p0171 and P0137. Brought to a car garage and they asked for $90 for checking, and estimated $$$ - $$$$ for repairing. Helpless and do not know what to do.

HI all I have Toyota Rav 4 2011 In UK. my car was under warranty when I bought it as second hand, I started getting Lights on my das board warning light, check 4X4 system, traction, when am in town or on Motorway when I get those lights my car goes on Limp mode. which mean my car would not go more then 75 to 80 mph. i decide to take my car to local Toyota garage in Leicester, they dingoes and said it could be your EGR Valve. i said ok how much it will be> £299,I paid trusted Toyota two day later i get the same light back on. i went back to Toyota they said now it could be you DPF filter which will cost £900. i went MAD at them I said First you said EGR valve now you saying DPF filter what guaranty do you give out weather the fault will not come up again. THE ANS WAS: WE CANT SAY IT WILL NOT COME UP. I replied so Basically I might as well change the brand new engine, his face was dropped. so basically the diagnose they use it not worth it cause they don't know what they doing. i still have problems in my car. I will try and ask my garage to do what Jennifer advice and also unplug plug the Battery. see if that helps. writing all this am sure you can see how frustration I have been. thank you

I have 2007 engine light traction light all on took it to Toyota said oxygen sensor bad had put new one on 200+dollars it’s been three week lights back on . My last Toyota to.i only has 57,000 miles on it. Have a 1997 corolla it has almost 200,000no trouble at all. It came from japan.

I have a 2012 RAV4 with the same problem. Had the O2 sensor replaced, and replaced the gas cap, just to be sure. Lights continue to stay on. I've been dealing with this for about a year. Contacted Toyota who said they have no recall or bulletin on this issue. I'm very concerned since the 4 wheel drive and Traction lights come on as well as the check engine light. It seems a bit of a scam that the life saving features are disabled because of an 02 sensor, (which is already replaced). I would think that Toyota would stand behind this defect.

I also have a 2012 Toyota Rav4. Yesterday my Engine Light, 4 wheel drive and TRAC lights came on. It was not my gas cap. I checked my fluids and it turned out I was a half quart of oil low. I don't have an answer! I have a 2009 Toyota Rav4 Limited 4wd. winter 2015 came home and drove in yard, driveway has slight incline! Started slipping and stopped to put in 4wd. Started moving and check engine light came on! Traction control light,4wd light too. Code P0138,CO2 sensor. Spinning wheels and sliding. Hit my truck left front wheel with my left rear wheel and Took off my left rear fender skirts. Took 1/2 hour to get up grade. Put in Bosch down stream o2 sensor. Lasted until next winter till I put car in 4wd again. Burned out sensor. Put in another sensor. P0138 code voltage high down stream O2 sensor. Put in another sensor.Burned out heater in sensor. Put in another sensor. Check engine light on and is still on.No sticker on Rav4 since 2015 until now. Had a new sticker 04/30/2018, Reject for emissions,30 day sticker. Got fine for no sticker. 55 dollars paid. I'm looking at front 02 sensor, air/fuel sensor, Has 2 02 sensors in it! Code if voltage as much as 1 volt high, for a high voltage P0138 code. Car runs great with a bad upstream air/fuel sensor. $169.99 and if any one can guess what is doing this to my great Rav4 with no 4wd and no traction control and Cruze control. Please let me know if there is any hope for me? Code on all the time! Im looking for short in wiring or bad ground now?

Replace both 02 censors do down stream first then up stream.

I just had this issue happen to me. I just got off the phone with the dealer they said the other 2 lights will almost come on every time the check engine light comes on. I pulled the codes and I had C1201, C1441, and P0174. The guy at the dealer ship said just replace the O2 censor and clear the code and that should fix it. Should anyway. Going to give it a try after the part comes in.

I have a 2010 RAV4 4WD Japanese Domestic Version and had this problem after 75000km My technician tuneup the engine by removing the Throttle Body and cleaned the carbon deposited and also the airflow sensors and replaced the Ignition plugs (as required at 80k mileage )AND removed the injectors and cleaned it by running injector cleaners through it. Now it is running smoothly.

THIS IS THE ANSWER TO ALL OUR PROBLEMS.. Reading all the comments on a few sites I've tried the fuel cap, checked lose hoses, disconnected the battery and none of them worked. I took it to an independent garage and they plugged in the computer to check what was going on. He seemed to know instantly what the problem was. There must be a sensor in the exhaust and when it gets coked up (sooty) it shuts down a few things.. eg, 4x4, cruise control, engine management and so on. I added a bottle of "Forte" to a full tank of fuel then took it for a motorway drive. When the engine is warm, drive in third gear at 3500rpm for 15mins. I actually did this three times on my way back from Scotland. The lights still never went out til the day after, but all is working again now with no lights on the dash. If this works for you also, post the answer on as many sites as possible because Toyota are ripping people off pretending not to know how to fix it.

I am having the same issues all of you are having also. I have been to Toyota 4 times over the last few months and they Toyota can not figure it out they say. My check engine light and AWD stay on all the time. The code gets cleared by the dealership and AutoZone I drive home and the next time I turn on my car it's magically back. They guy at Toyota also gave me a lesson on how to tighten the gas cap. Seriously! It is a new gas cap and I am not an idiot. They keep telling me it must be the gas cap or something in the EVAP line. Extremely frustrating. I am going to have my son replace the O2 sensors and hopefully it will solve the problem. I bought a Toyota because I heard they last forever. Apparently we got the lemons.

No it didn't solve the problem that's why we are all here for SIMILAR issues not the same exact problem as yours.

I had this happen once before - AWD disengaged, 2WD engaged, and a CEL. Took it to Toyota asap to get it figured out, and it was the damned gas cap. I got the same notifications on my dash this morning, and looked at the gas cap and sure enough, it was loose. Like not even screwed in. Not even sure how that happened but hoping the sensors will reset themselves after driving a bit with the gas cap tightened.

2009 RAV4 limited. On Wednesday,I got the oil changed at valvoline,Thursday we had a huge rain storm. Today (Friday)we start the car and most of the mentioned lights are on. So I take it to autozone and get the code P0607 ECM. Ugh,I open the hood,find the techs pen sitting on the fan Close it and realize the ecm is in the glovebox,where the clumsy tech was fumbling around ,trying to get the cabin air filter out. Is it possible he hit the ecm and a few days later an error occurred?

Same problem and tightened the petrol cap, now works fine! Another symptom we had was the back door central locking failed so was permanently locked, after tightening cap, lights went out and central locking works words fail me! I must be stupid though, I mean who wouldn't check the petrol cap after all of these issues :)

The reason my check engine light was on 5 months was due to a faulty vacuum purge valve near the gas cap on driver rear side. I took this to Toyota 5X's in order for them to figure it out. The only reason they figured it out was because my gas was low the last time I went in and the gas cap was still wet for some reason....alas...faulty vacuum purge valve replaced and light went of next day.

I had the same issue this morning. I have toyota rav4 2013 had maint reqd light, check engine and 4wd light on at the same time all of sudden. I went through all the answers and comments haven’t tried any yet. Just wanted to post that this issue is also on 2013 rav4 . I did oil change like a month ago. After a week from that i had maint reqd light on for like 30-45 secs and continued for a week then had steady maint reqd sign on. And now this all this light on. Used be fan of toyota now no more. I wouldn’t have bought this if i knew toyota was running through this problem.

I have a 2010 Rav 4 Sport with a V6 and it is a 4x4 with 166k .The same lights (check engine , 4x4 and traction control) came on . i own a code reader and read the code myself . My code said it was a camshaft positioning sensor . It's a $7 part . I cleared the code and drove it , turning the engine off and on 5 times , for a few miles . It hasn't came back on yet .

I have a 2011 V6 RAV4 approaching 100k miles bought in Apr 2011. Suddenly the triple light issue appeared on Feb 6, 2019. The weather here has been cold, snowy and icy but when the issue occurred we had unseasonably warm weather of 50-60 Degrees Fahrenheit. However, it has been very wet due to rain. Pulled car into garage since it had been sitting in wet weather. I added about 1/2 quart of oil to top it off and then started the car, lights still on. After reading through all these posts I then tried the gas cap, undoing then tightening it, all three lights were still on when I restarted the car. Then took off one battery terminal connection and put it back on immediately, thus disconnecting the battery, started car. Triple lights on dash still on. Ok, finally, I disconnected the battery again, unscrewed the gas cap then immediately screwed the gas cap back on. Let the car sit for 30 minutes with battery disconnected. Attached battery terminal and connected the battery after that 30 minutes. Started car, NO Warning Lights...it worked. Will update here if this changes.

I cannot believe I bought another Toyota Rav 4. I have a 2012 with 85k on it. I used to have a 2008. I was totaled a year ago. My Ck eng, 4 whl and traction lights are on. SAME EXACT THING that happened to my 2008. I poured thousands of $$$ into that car trying to get those things to stay off. Sensor after sensor, disconneciton of battery, wiggling of gas cap. NOTHING kept those darn fool lights off. Then it was totaled and I got this one and guess what came on just 3 weeks ago. THOSE FREAKIN LIGHTS. I legit cried. I am a single Mom and trust me, multiple visits with multiple sensors is not in the budget. I did got get it checked out and they did it for free cuz I was freaking out so much. They are telling me the only code it's throwing is a P0138. I told them that it would be 1 of 4 codes and that would be one of them and sure enough......there it is. Guess what they told me to do????? Put in a new air flow sensor. I was like...NO NO NO NO NO. Toyota knows...has to know...this is a serious systemic issue with their cars. He's like, "I'm sorry ma'am but there's not recall or bulletin about this. We need to put a new sensor in and then update the EC and that should fix it. " SHOULD???? I was literally out of my mind. I was polite and calm and I said to them "I"m sure you get why i"m frustrated. I'm certain if you were dealing with this, you would be too. I thought the 2008's issues were a fluke. I had NO CLUE that I would buy a 2012 and enounter the same thing 12 months later. The big issue right now (I don't have 600 to fix it) is that I know that eventually the engine will be "retarded" and I won't be able to go over 40mph. AND, I'm sucking gas right now like it's being sucked through a big gulp straw. I just cannot believe this is happening AGAIN. So, I took it to a Toyota mechanic that works on the side in his little garage and he's going to take a look and he's saying there is a bulletin on that code. He wanted my VIN and he's going to get back to me. He said "There is a bulletin on that obviously it's all dated for your car but depending on wht the freeze-frame data sys it tell you which one to replace and then there's an update". I"m hoping we can get really specific. Cuz in other forum they mentioned that Bank 1 Sensor 1 will not always throw the code but it's usually the culprit . Heck, some folks just keep unhooking the battery and letting the codes go out and when hooked back up they don't ever come back on for MONTHS. I know this is long....and it's a rant. I"m just really frustrated, unemployed and I wish I was a mechanic. :::::sigh::::: I'll let you all know what this mechanic tells me. May the force be with us all. I will NEVER EVER buy another Toyota as long as I live.

Okay everyone. I’ll try to explain this best I can. I have a 2009 RAV4 Limited with a 3.5. This is what I’ve figured it out. The three dreadful lights that keep coming on Trac, 4x4, & Engine are pertaining to your gas cap. However must of us have been putting on gas caps for years so what the hell right. Anyways don’t do what I did. Bought a new one. The actual problem is your fuel. The mixture in 87 with 10% Ethanol is a crock. Our Toyota’s with all the high tech sensors in the gas tank are working while we are sleeping at night. They basically run a pressure test several times thru the night. If it senses a loss, it triggers all those safety lights to illuminate. So this is why I say it’s your fuel. The mixture of ethanol is to high. The tank isn’t building pressure like it would with straight gas with no ethanol or at least 93 with their cut 10% ethanol. Sounds crazy but I switched to straight gas and I haven’t had my lights back on for 6 months now.

I have a 2012 Rav4 and the three lights (Engine Check, 4WD and Trac Off) come on after it rains. Will go off on its own after 2 or 3 days. Put my diagnostic tester (OBDII) on and got an error code for the onboard computer. The lights coming on could be moisture is getting to the module. I will try to seal the module where the wiring harness is and see if that solves problem.Don't believe any mechanic who tells you it's an O2 sensor. Makes absolutely no sense as that will not result in any other error beside the engine check light.

Check the battery. Same thing happened with my mothers right after we changed the alternator we’re swapping the battery out tonight will let u all know but obv not o2 sensor not even gonna bother with that. Everyone we talked to said check battery it’s not giving the car enough juice to swap out of 4wd and that’s why it’s throwing the engine codes etc. fingers crossed my mechanic friends are right will let u all know later! Hope this is the problem as it’s still under warranty!

All 3 lights came on when I started the vehicle with some wired exhaust sound once. I came home that night and during self inspection next morning, I noticed one of the exhaust pipe next to air filter box under the hood was off and that I inserted back to its original position. Lights still didn’t go off so I took it to Autozone to run for code which came out as linked to some exhaust. I told them about the exhaust pipe and they advised me to unplug the positive battery terminal only for 30 mins as this will reset the board. And it worked out, thank you all for your help.

I had this problem and I checked the air pressure in my tires and found 2 tires was low filled all the tires to 34lbs pressure and all the light was out!

I have a 2011 Toyota RAV4 and had this problem a few days ago. Unhooked battery, lights stayed off 3 days and back on. Took to have it looked at and they said loose gas cap but we had already checked that, so don't believe that made all 3 (4WD, Check Engine, and Traction Control) of those lights come on. Also, losing oil but they said there are no signs of leaks/burning oil at all. This morning the 4WD light is staying on a little longer but not completely on yet.

2010 RAV4 Ltd V6 wirh 184,000 miles and check engine, 4WD and Trac light came on yesterday for the first time ever. I tightened gas cap, no luck. Today i disconnected battery for 1/2 hr and lights were off when I re-connected. We'll see how long it lasts.

2012 RAV4 SPORT V6 - 55K MILES, Check engine, Trac Off, 4WD lights all came on yesterday. 1st time it happened. The only solution I found was to disconnect battery and reset the computer. Seems to have solved the issue.

Same issue. Fault codes C1201, P0546, C1280. Deleted codes for month. 7 tours for dealers. Problem solved. Exactly same preassure in all 4 tires. No more lights on the dash.

I have a 2009 RAV4 Sport with 150,000 miles with only basic maintenance costs. This morning I had a check engine and traction light come on. I just recently had oil change and tires rotated, so I decided to start looking things over on the engine and found that a hose was disconnected between my intake and air filter. Now I need to clear the alarm to see if it reoccurs.

Just a follow up, After getting a reset on my 2009 RAV4 Sport tire and engine light, so far so good. It seems the disconnected hose was causing the lights.

I have a Rav 4, 2012. Went out in a rain storm and the same 3 lights come on. Got home, overnight, the next morning, no lights. Code was P0137 when I pulled it. Hmmmm, rain for some reason and maybe something got wet? I suspect it will be back on again after reading all these posts!

I have a 2011 Rav 4 and the same lights came on yesterday on my way home, we had a terrible rain storm that day this information is very helpful, I took it to my Mechanic right away and have an appointment to get it looked at this Friday. i thought that because my Rav 4 has high mileage, 200K that things were starting to go. I can't complain this is the first really big problem I have had which I did not know how to handle it.

I had the same problem, it got fixed by changing the ignition coil! The error that appears in my diagnostic was p3053. Good luck everyone.

Hi All, These 3 lights have been going off and on at random for 3 years now. The dealership knew it was an issue and even inspected and passed my car for years with these lights on. I have replaced gas caps several times over these 3 years. That didn't fix my issue. The FIX.......The dealership told me to open the gas cap for a moment, put it back on, and driver over 50 mph steadily (do not drop below 50mph) for about 30 miles and the lights will go off. It works for my car and the lights go off. Mechanics who don't know about this issue want to replace expensive oxygen sensors (about $400 for the sensors and $300 for labor) and air/fuel ratio sensors because that's what the computer code tells it to do. This is design issue that Toyota should fix and recall but likely will not because of the age or our cars. Try opening the gas cap, tightening, and running the car over 50mph for 30 miles and see if it turns the lights off for you.

2012 Toyota RAV4 The Trac Off, Check Engine, and 4WD lites on the dash are on and won't turn off. Dang, I hate when that happens. THE FIX Look for the computer under the hood. Loosen the lever on the top plug and wiggle it out a little bit and push it back in place and snap the lever back down. Do the same with the lower plug. Walla, easypeasy. This thread helped me in a number of ways so just a quick note. My 2010 rav 4 lights all came on going up hill on the autoroute at avignon towing our caravan 1.5t and car fully loaded all kids and kit. I found an sos spot and we got towed. I thought the rav was losing power so did not want to proceed past the first sos I came too ad the French autoroute hard shoulders are treacherous places. When being towed I ran the engine with AC (check light all on) and it was purring as normal. The breakdown guy said injectors. Anyway mondial part of allianze were useless and took 3 hours to explain what next. So I kept researching. I deduced I could leave the caravan and try and get the family home as th rav was running perfectly well. I had no ceuise control which was the biggest pain. Anyway we drown 450km homr withought any issue. That night I check the filler cap (fine) vaccum hoses mine are all clipped on, one was slightly off perfect so reseated. But I also checked the air filter. This was filthy so cleaned with hoover and air hose. Disconnected battery for 10 mins to reset lights and all was well. I drove back to marseille collected caravan and drove back home over 1000km withought any issues and using cruise So lesson here to me is 1 these lights look really worrying, but they are check lights so it could be just that , check bit keep going at your own risk. 2 service every 12 months where I live and change the basics. I will also buy a ecm reader to check the faults. But this could have ultimately need just a dirty air filter. Main Issue being the engine warnings are not specific enough. Hey ho a hybrid rav or tesla next !!

Loose gas cap, check your cap!

My 2011 Rav4 has 278,000 miles today. The stability light and ABS and Check Engine light have been on for over 100,000 miles, occasionally reset by me by disconnecting the neg battery cable. No problem other than the sensor lights on and no cruise control.

2010 Rav4, 110,000 miles. Got the three lights this morning. Filled the spare as the tire light had been on for a week, no go. Then took off gas cap and re tightened, still had the three lights. The took the gas cap off and disconnected negative battery terminal for 1/2 an hour. Put gas cap on and then reconnected battery, light are ALL OFF and it's been a day. Will update if lights come back on, but it looks good. Thanks to the advice in this thread for saving me money, time and headache. We're looking at you Toyota!

2011 rav4 2.5liter . Same 3 lights come on ,for over 3 years now ,my rav4 has just over 100k on it and noone can seem to figure this out after countless visits to various dealerships and garages. Pulls up an O2 code , they've been changed 3 times already, new gas cap replaced. I'm at the point where I believe it's the catalytic converter/manifold. The lights come on the same time every day. Anyone have any clue before I spend 1500 dollars on a guess..

I solve the problem, the situation was caused by the spark plug, there was one of them that was unplugged. I plugged it properly and everything was solved.

So after posting my comments above 3 years ago, under the name EngineLights, and spending hundreds of dollars more on parts and mechanics, I finally solved the problem myself with a little bit of luck. I had just filled the gas tank and parked on my driveway to put on the summer tires with the rear of the vehicle on the lower end of the slope. When I jacked up the driver's side of the vehicle, gasoline started to drip from the gas tank and it was coming from the top of the tank somewhere. The top of the tank is where the fuel pump goes into the tank. There's also some kind of a vent tube up there. That's when it clicked that the vacuum in the fuel line was being affected when the vehicle hit any kind of minor bump, which was triggering a problem to the computer. So I had a mechanic drop the tank and replace the seal on fuel pump and that vent as well for about 3 hundred bucks. Problem solved! We've driven tens of thousands of miles in all temperatures and on all kinds of roads, and those lights have never come on again. (More importantly, my 4 wheel drive and traction control work again.) I'm guessing not everyones' problem is going to have this same cause, but maybe this information will be useful to some of you.

It is a definite first step to use a code reader. In my case, the cause of the three lights was the intermediate shaft speed sensor. Got the code: P0793 - Intermediate shaft speed sensor non-responsive. The sensor is tucked behind some other junk and was not glaringly obvious at first. When I found it I notice wires were chewed through or eroded. I was able to re-wire it in it's place and fixed the whole issue. If you can identify the location of the sensor in question and give it a check yourself, you could save a lot of money. A mechanic might have replaced the part and charged for parts and labor. Hopefully this is helpful to someone with a similar issue. Thank you to everyone for sharing and helping.

We had the same light problem at 150,000 miles. Changed the plugs and had the air induction cleaned . no more problems with any of the lights anymore. Toyota kept telling mme these things should be done. I never responded. And all of a sudden, things started happening.The computers in those cars can be reset to do anything. I know because I drove a truck for many years. You can reset the computer to affect the performance of the vehicle.

@Guru2RDN3... When you put back the "hose", does the lights automatically come off after driving? Does it clear the lights or do you need to reset just to clear the codes?

2010 Rav4 - 100K mi., have not had this happen : couple days after an oil change, engine light, 4WD, & VSC all came on; and cruise control didn't work, flashed on & off. Disconnected battery for a couple minutes. Now lights are off and cruise works. I think a fault code occurred somehow and was reset by the power cycle.

So my three lights came on the other day when I passed someone on the highway going about 75 mph. (Dry warm weather) Freaked me out because I had well over 100 miles to go to get home. 2012 Rav 4 6 cyl with 107,000 miles. Made it home fine and by the comments in this thread it doesn't seem detrimental to drive. After reading this thread I am going to get under the hood, check hoses, oil level, air filter & clean the O-ring on gas cap as someone mentioned earlier. Seems like this could be one of a multitude of issues. Once I do that I will get the code from AutoZone and see what it says is the cause. I'll do this after I disconnect the battery for 30 min. or so to see if the lights come back on. I am scheduled for a tune up so I will get that done and get new plugs and wires put in and I'll have them also disconnect the battery for 1/2 hour after they finish. I will not tackle the code read out until I have done all of this first and the problem still persist. I want to thank everyone for sharing all this valuable info and I will let you know if mine gets fixed or not

Well that was fast... Opened the gas cap and then screwed it back on...I usually screw it till it clicks...this time I let it click like 5 times. Whallah...problem solved. Lights are gone, Thanks everyone!

Got the same three lights as everyone else last night. Lights still on today so I disconnected the battery, tightened the gas cap and reconnected the battery. Lights are gone .... for now.. .will post update

This light trio happened to me for a 2nd time after getting an oil change at the dealership, first time i thought it was a fluke but now i think its intentional because i wouldnt pay them $75 to replace 3 194 bulbs. im sure i sound like a crazy person but i wish i could prove that it was them casue its so grimey. the fix was as Guru2RDN3 posted "found that a hose was disconnected between my intake and air filter." not my photo, posted for posterity

I have a 2011 RAV4 Sport v6 with 185k Miles, Haven't had a single issue with it so far other than normal maintenance (Maintenance Req light only, Oil Changes, Spark Plus, Coil Packs, Shocks, Springs and so on) and I do MOST all of the work on it myself with OCD- like timing and precision so I have a pretty good mechanical working knowledge although not an Expert, on either Gen 3 2002-2005 Ford Explorers (with both the 4.0L v6 or the Triton 4.6L v8's) AND these Also Gen 3 2006-2012 RAV4's (with both the 2.4L 4 Cylinder or 3.5L v6) And again not a self thought of "Expert" or Certified Toyota Mechanic,,, BUT as far as these RAV4's are concerned I do happen to have a VERY GOOD working knowledge of both the 3rd Gen Ford Explorers as well as these 3rd Gen Toyota RAV4's of which my Partner JUST had this exact issue happen this morning on their 2008 Limited 3.5L v6 with just over 100k Miles,,, if you have this Check Engine, 4x4, TRAC or VSC "3 Lights Problem" ESPESCIALLY but not limited to if you have driven through a large pot hole full of water at high speed, or any kind of Water "ponding" at high speeds, or even a Massively Large torrential rain storm. I can ALMOST Guarantee it has nothing to do with an o2 Sensor since ALOT of you seem to be replacing those very often with no lasting effect. From my research and work on these, including my Partners 2008 that this Just happened on, it is more than likely One or I Suppose possibly a Combination of Specifically 4-5 Causes Only. 1: The EVAP System Canister Assembly actually has a bad valve or switch or Solenoid. 2: the EVAP System Canister Assembly is contaminated with water/debris. 3: you put in / have "Bad Gas" which may have had a higher than normal amount of water or debris that is now in the tank and made its way through the Fuel and EVAP system. 4: The EVAP System Canister simply has a bad/loose Electrical Plug or, Broken, Loose (even the slightest bit) or somehow Damaged Hose Somewhere between the Fuel Tank - EVAP System Canister, EVAP System Canister Pump and/or EVAP System Canister FILTER. I emphasized FILTER because on 2006-2012 models there is actually a separate part and a relatively separate location from the actual EVAP System Canister Module (Which is located approximately around the Center Underneath of the vehicle right next to the Drive Shaft "Split" / U-Joint and has multiple components including the Charcoal Canister and Canister Pump along with the Purge and Vent Valves and a few other components). (Where as the EVAP System Canister FILTER is a completely separate part in a completely separate location. The EVAP System Canister FILTER which is apparently a very common / easy thing to break and a MUCH smaller Part, is located directly next to the EVAP System Canister Module BUT Attached to the Outer Frame almost directly underneath where the the Front Driver and Rear Driver Side, Passenger doors meet. It should only have TWO hoses connected to it number One of which is quite long and runs Straight-Ish towards the back of the vehicle along the Frame and than curves straight up to the fuel tank Filler Hose where you would add fuel when normally putting Gas. The 2nd separate Smaller hose comes out of the canister above the #1 Longer Hose and curves almost directly 90° degrees right out of the Filter Assembly towards the Passenger Side of the vehicle underneath slightly less than half of length to Center Area of the vehicle and connects to the EVAP System Canister Module/Pump. The EVAP System Canister FILTER is relatively small compared to the EVAP System Canister Module and if your not paying attention/ following the route of all the hoses VERY carefully it is quite easy to miss or not notice that it is even there at all 2 other slight notes are in newer model years it is also shielded by a little piece of shielding also attached to the frame AND this part actually has 2 different "versions" or models that look almost identical 1 for the Vehicle Model Years 2006-2009 Part # 7770642010, and the other for 2009-2012 Part # 777060R011). And #5 I include cautiously (Being the Fuel Fill Cap Itself) since that itself COULD be because its even just slightly loose, very loose, completely missing, or somehow damaged and no longer Sealing and Venting properly AS WELL as GENERALLY any Filling Fuel while Engine Running / Bad/Loose Fuel Cap MAY cause a Check engine code/Light to come on but should NOT cause any other codes/or lights And once fixed or addressed should even "reset itself" including any code or light that came on from the result of the Fuel Filler Cap. Additional Check Engine Codes Or Lights such as the "3 Light Issue" Indicate that it should be one of the first 4 issues mentioned (NOT the Gas Cap) as those 3 Lights Generally need to be Manually Reset with either a OBDII Code Reader Instantly Or by disconnecting power to the entire vehicle including the ECM by disconnecting the battery for 30mins to 2 Hours EVEN after having any of the first 4 issues described, Fixed/Repaired. IF any of the first 4 Issues mentioned (or any combination of them) HAVE been fixed/repaired and the Codes/Lights REMAIN on its more than Likely that the codes/lights were not properly erased or reset. Similarly if you are having this "3 Light Issue" and they are coming on and off on their own but it seems to happen at random, or seemingly specific circumstances such as very cold mornings or only when the engine hasn't been run for serval hours and therefore has not warmed up at all or reached its normal operating temperature than i still believe the cause is one of the First of the 4 issues described but Most Likely at a very "Early Stage" in its problem such as an Extremely Small Leak in a hose, Ever So Slightly Loose Hose or something like that so as conditions / Temperatures both Outside Ambient, and/or Engine Temps Change,,, As do whatever minor issue(s) that may JUST be beginning or extremely Minor, causing the lights to possibly seemingly only come on when its a very cold morning, or any other similar odd situation and than "Turn Themselves Off" or go away. It so happens that in my partners case they drove through an extremely bad storm we recently had here with not only a Massive amount of water on the Highways, but Also some sort of large enough tree branch or Debris seemingly made its way underneath the RAV4, Actually COMPLETELY Tearing /Ripping Out and actually Breaking the Small hose connecting the EVAP System Canister Module to the EVAP System Canister FILTER leaving the hose completely dangling down as it scraped along the ground while the vehicle was moving. A replacement EVAP System Canister FILTER long with the Smaller Hose that was ripped off and broken were replaced, All Check Engine Codes were Manually Reset with an OBDII Reader,,, and like Magic all the codes went away and stayed away, as well as the lights, full engine power And AWD/4x4 functionality was restored and All was Perfect and Right again with their RAV4. If anyone has any questions or concerns I am assuming that you can email and/or message me on here on the forum.

Here stop all your madness... It is in fact todays Ethanol Fuel doing it all. Toy, GM, Ford, Nissan etc. they all tried to fix this by stopping Ethanol fuel use in todays cars but quickly learned its out of their hands. So' they all got together with gas corps demanding better fuels at least and this is the end result. This list is constantly growing and its totally up to all of us to pay attention where we buy our fuel today. Read around on this website to learn more. Thanks notacarguy2!! Seems like I had the exact same issue with my 2012 Rav4, and the hose was disconnected after an oil change I got today. The lights came on a few hours later. Maybe they forgot to reconnect after checking the oil filter. Haven't driven it yet tonight but hopefully the lights will go off tomorrow or after a reset. Thanks!

If you have 4 lights (battery,,CHK engine,4wd,stability control) The fan belt is the problem. Mine snapped off which controls the alternator ( battery died and car shut off and wouldnt start again ) temp gages bc of water pump , and ac and power steering (4wd light and TSC light )

Just happened to me tonight. Ran it by my Mechanics place and had him check it with a code reader and clear the light but he said they will likely come back on. He says the engine is misfiring so it could be a spark plug or ignition coil he is going to check on it tomorrow to see which is the issue. Said 15 minute repair but a shop will probably soak you for the hour

Had a 2008 Rav 4 and the 3 lights came on. Mechanic turned them off. No problem. Now my 2012 Rav 4 did the same thing on 11/14/23. Is there a definite answer to this problem?

My rav is still running great. I was able to find a faulty sensor and replace it myself. I located the sensors in my engine using pictures on google. One of them was visibly messed up, with a severed wire that was supposed to be attached. I was lucky it was so obvious. New one was, I think, under $100. Fixed it and have had no more issues.

We have a Toyota 2011 RAV4. We have had the problem for three years and spent thousands of dollars. We have replaced many different parts in the system and we still have the problem. Sometimes it will stop for a month or two but then it always comes back. We lodged a complaint with Toyota Canada, they referred us to our local dealership who have been trying to help us, but the problem seems insolvable. It seems very unfair.
