My 1988 honda civic will get up to 3000 rmp and
start spitting but won't cut off any ideas on what it
could be

Has the timing belt been changed yet? Distributor cap, rotor button, plugs & plug wires, dirty air filter, PCV, Fuel injectors, Fuel filter, Fuel pump, Vacuum leaks, cat clogged, Is check engine light on?

Is the air filter dirty? Test your sensors & EGR, MAP, Dirty throttle body or bad gasket.
