Why is my 2005 Mazda 3 using so much oil?

Asked by GuruX3ZBV Nov 25, 2018 at 11:12 AM about the Mazda CX-3

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My Mazda 3 is using 2-3 quarts of oil every
1000-1500 miles. It does not smoke and it
does not have an oil leak. Why is my car
using so much oil and where is the oil going?

Car manufacturers have a standard for excessive oil consumption and yours seems to be borderline. An engine that uses a quart of oil in 500 miles probably will not smoke. You probably are still covered under your drivetrain warranty, but even if you're not, go yo Mazda and report this. My experience with Mazda has been good and I believe they will help you with this.
