New Mercedes Gl 450

Asked by GuruWBMRM May 01, 2018 at 12:05 PM about the Mercedes-Benz 450-Class

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello. I have a new Mercedes GL 450 that has not started
on two separate occasions since I purchased it a few
months ago.  Last time, drove to dinner and after a couple
of hours vehicle would not work and I was stranded.  it
does not even turn over, the radio, screen, light in glove
box etc are all out as well.  The dealership says they do
not see a computer code that tells them what the problem
is.  I’m concerned to pick it up because I do not want to
have to randomly jump start it when using it.  Do you think
they sold us a lemon  Any ideas will be greatly
appreciated.

You say the car is new, in any case, the dealer has the responsibility to make sure that the vehicle performs to your expectations, perfectly, regardless of make. Did you see the check engine light come on when the problem happened? I don't know if they performed a complete system check when you took the car for service. The car is running now and not possible to diagnose but, if this happens again, have the car towed to the dealer. If, for any reason, you receive the same answer, don't keep quiet, ask to speak with the service manager, general manager and always keep names as you may need them later. If you have to, contact the Mercedes Benz District Office with your complaint and, last, but not least, be sure to tell all of them that you will use social media to let everyone know of your experience with them.

The vehicle was bought end of Dec and only has 700 miles on it. Thank you for all of your great advice!

You are very welcome. I own a 2017 E300, my second new Mercedes, purchased at the same dealer and I can say that I have always been treated with courtesy and excellent service as expected from Mercedes-Benz. Hope you can resolve the situation.

your fuel sensor has to be replaced, located on drivers side of engine, about half way down on bell housing............When replaced, make sure it's a Bosch, others don't last long
