How to disable the alarm on a 2001 Cabrio

Asked by Wglenn68 May 31, 2013 at 06:47 PM about the Volkswagen Cabrio

Question type: General

How do you disable the alarm on a 2001 Cabrio. As soon as you shut the door the alarm
arms itself. It will continue to honk, as though you are arming it, as you drive down the
road every minute or so. Then when you get to your destination and open the door the
alarm goes off. I just want to shut the silly thing off. Help

Suggest you ask this question on a VW Forum...Even if I knew how (which I don't), I wouldn't divulge this info. as I might be helping someone steal a car.

I also have problems with mine every once in a while. Things like I unlock the door, and when I open it the alarm goes off. Sometimes the alarm doesn't go off till I put the key in the ignition. I once asked a guy who works on VW's how to rset the alarm and he told me to turn the key in the drivers side door counterclockwise 2 times. So this is how I get into mine now.

I disabled mine by first removing the alarm module located behind the headlight switch. Once removed, removing the cover of the module. Inside are two magnetic coil relays. One is for the horn alarm and the other for flashers. I wedged plastic strips between the contacts of each to prevent closure. I put the cover back on and plugged it back in. No more random alarm.
