IMO it's one of the worst cars ever made, with some of the oddest issues I've ever seen. If you're planning on getting one, test drive it in the rain, on the highway for atleast 10 mins. Check the floor boards and the spare tire well. For some reason an abnormal amount of these cars seem to have issues with turning into fish bowls in the rain. If you do get one, KNOW that it will break. They are disposable cars in my experience and owners seem to quickly pay more for repairs than teh car is worth. If you want a cheap car get an older Escort, or really just about anything else, that's my advice.

i had 4 friends in high school with these cars and they all ran pretty well. 2 of them sold theirs after they graduated, 1 had the tranny go out and sold it, and the other gave his to his mom. never had any leaks though?

some of the most common parts to replace are calipers because they make a horrible noise after a while. The control are bushing or control arms them selves. Sway bar links and bushings, head gasket, timing system, front and rear brakes. Horrible cars and ive also seen a lot of fishbowls. Ive witnessed my wife's car have water in the passenger rear it was ridiculous.

if you know how to PROPERLY maintain them, they're great cars, problem is most ppl dont do preventative maintenance on them and thats why they run into problems. i've owned 4 neons myself and i love them.

The trunk rubber gasket leaks as well as the rear light gaskets. This water can end up in the rear passenger foot wells as well as the trunk and spare tire well. My solution was to use an aerosol can of liquid rubber to reseal the trunk lid's rubber molding to the chassis. Cheap and works great, with care and attention it looks good too. The rear light seals are cheap to replace with new factory light seals, if you add a water proof caulking in addition to the adhesive backing this makes sure they will last. 100% fix to the fishbowl problem!!!!
