2006/2009 Ford bantam Rocam 1.6XLT.

Asked by Dricus May 12, 2017 at 09:13 AM about the Ford Bantam

Question type: General

I drive a 1.6xlt Ford bantam rocam and i just replaced the alternator
regulator a while ago and then after disconnecting the battery the car
switched off and started up by itself and then the fan went on by itself too
and from that day forward the fan doesn't switch off, I now have to
disconnect the terminal from the battery when i park it otherwise the battery
dies within a few minutes, I checked the fuses and went to a battery shop
and they recommended i take the car to an auto electrician to tell me what
is the problem, and my car radio suddenly doesn't switch on. the previous
regulator charged my battery at 17.44 Volts and it damaged the battery, I
just replaced the regulator yesterday and its already not charging properly
again, it was charing 13.51 volts last night and now its back to 12.13 volts,
what could be the problem with the alternator that it keeps doing this? Help
will be highly appreciated.
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE :)

Start off by replacing the starter relay, sounds like it short circuited. It would also be an idea to get the PCM (Engine control Unit) Checked up. This could be damaged

The Charging rate of 13.5 after the engine has started is OK and what it back to 12 to 13 volts is with in spec

These relays will be available from any Ford Parts Department or a Midas or Autozone outlet

The starter relay is located on top of the fuse block. Remove the two screws at the top of the fuse panel , right side under the dash. The Fuse and relay block or junction box will drop down. The Starter relay is a brown relay located at the left top of the relay area. Try swapping it with another brown relay.
