the revs on my bantam 1.6i XLT is hunting especially when the engine is cold. thi sproblem started on Saturday? help please before i take it to the dealers. by the way i have done 392000km with it.

i have done 392000km with my ford bantam 1.6i XLT but recently the revs started hunting between 750 and 1500rpm. it looks like the engine is taking up strain as indicated by the diming of the interior light

This could be your altenator giving its last breaths, this can just happen sudden; and when it doesn't generate enough power it makes the whole electrical system dim including the power to your spark plugs, the ecu sees the drop and ads inrichment fuel and picks up revs and creates your scenario.

Check the Alternator charging voltage. Should be between 12.5v and 13.5 Volts. Check the Battery electrolyte levels.
