09 EX Spectra engine surge

Asked by smith78213 Aug 22, 2013 at 09:21 PM about the Kia Spectra

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have an 09 Spectra EX. No problems till two weeks ago. When I cold start, the engine will surge from 1300 to about 2000 rpm repeatedly for about 1 minute. After it warms, the surge stops and all is normal.
Also occasionally when I stop for a light, it will sometimes give a quick surge and want to bolt one or two times then settle down. (It puts teeth marks on my heart)
I didn't check for codes as the engine light did not come on. Can a code be generated if the light is not on? Can it be one of the sensors?
Thanks, Smitty

probably a thermal activated thingy....the Intake Air Temp or IAT sensor....the engine temperature sensor...will shop for these things or you can do it on your own....will hold your hand part of the way on this~
