Bad Oil Pressure Gauge Or Bad Oil Pump?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Ive got a 1985 Chevy K10 with a 305 TPI out of an '86 IROC-Z. Truck has 124,XXX miles and the engine has a little less. My
oil pressure gauge is usually around 30 PSI but sometimes it'll drop to around 15 PSI if ive been driving for a while or i'm on
the highway or something. It has done this every so often for the last few years and its finally getting to me so I figured i'd
see if anyone has any ideas. I'm not low on oil, truck doesn't run hot or make any odd noises so in your opinion do you think
the gauge is off or the pump is bad?

It's gotta be the pump cause the same thing happened to my Uncles truck just a bit ago

nothing is wrong with the truck. That is normal operation, after a longer trip or highway trip the oil is hotter therefore thinner. Thinner oil develops lower pressure. 15psi is more than enough to lubricate the engine at idle or a little more. The only time is should be a concern is if it stays at 15psi at 4500 rpms
