Why is a '73 Ford Galaxie 500 valued at twice as much than a '73 Ford LTD?

NADA and others would value a top
condition '73 Ford LTD 2 door with a
351W V8 at just $5000 or so. A
Galaxie 500 of the same year,
condition, body type, engine and
options is valued at $10000. Since
the two models are so similar, why
such a major difference in price?

Well the "LTD" stand for "limited," which is quixotic considering Ford 'limited" production to like 50 billion of them. Almost all muscle cars share the same underpinnings as their lesser base model siblings, only those lacked the upgrades and styling and "savoir-faire" of the popular models. People just don't collect LTDs the way they do Galaxie 500s. Who ever heard of a low-rider LTD, anyhow?

NADA numbers for these cars are based on recent sales. If the LTDs that sold in the past year were in so-so condition, but the Galaxies were show vehicles, then that would account for the "cheaper" model selling for the higher amount.
