70 ford torino

i have 70 ford torino 429 cobra jet starts right up will run for a while then shut off
by itself but starts right up and runs for an while before shutting off again but
always starts

Points and condenser, make sure the breaker plate is not worn out and the ground wire is one piece. May also want to check running voltage on the coil positive side, should be around 9.7 volts. Now all of the above is if the ignition system is stock. If it has been modded to solid state then replace the ignition module and distributor pickup coil. HTH
