1997 Ford van Transmission

Asked by Joe Jun 29, 2018 at 08:51 AM

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I was driving my Ford Van about 40 mph when all of a sudden vehicle decelerated as if brakes were applied. I put vehicle in neutral and it freewheeled no problem not a brake issue. Back to drive after a few hundred feet again van decelerated, it only happens in Drive with or without overdrive.
I was able to limp back home in 2nd with no issues. 1st. ,2nd and reverse seem to work with no problem just Drive.
Any Ideas ?????

Best guess, since this actually happened to me about 7 yrs ago, . Your transmission is about to go! You may be able to save it (cross your fingers cause if you have my luck you'll be buying a new transmission or rebuilding that one.) By flushing out your transmission fluid and changing the filter. This will cost you about$30 as opposed to 1000 to buy a used one or have it rebuilt or three grand for a new one. I would definitely go that route first.
