Delayed start/ignition

Asked by Jul 29, 2019 at 04:27 PM about the Ford E-Series Cargo

Question type: General

Good afternoon, I drive a
commercial 2018 Ford E450
super duty. Due to the fact that it
is a commercial vehicle there are
some safety devices installed on
a vehicle. One of which is either
for safety or the company got a
deal on this particular model.
After you turn the ignition key it
takes anywhere from 5 to 30
seconds before the vehicle starts.
Do you have any idea what this is
called and or the purpose as well
as if there's any way to bypass
this feature? Thank you for your
assistance Josh

Is this delay the glow plugs heating up?

No. I wish this were diesel. This is a propane truck. I may be incorrect but I didn't think propane had the glow plugs.

That is correct. Your truck should have the 6.2 gas engine. Without knowing all the stuff that was added to your truck I could not say why the delay occurs. Does it crank when you turn the key or nothing at all? Do you have to keep the key turned for 30 seconds until it turns over?

Your best bet is to ask your fleet manager why this happens.

This is a factory picture. You just turn the key like you normally would and allowed to spring back, all the accessory lights come on and then it cranks over about 5. 30 seconds later.
